Fender Bassman 100T Chapter 3

Doesn't it need a cab hooked up anyway? Or can it operate without a load totally? My Super Bassman does the silent record but has to have a cab connected. Even tho there's no sound going to that cab. Is the 100T different in this regard? I know you get the full power tube sound and my SB just gets the DI out from pre amp....but wondering on the no load situ? ??

I have recorded using my SB300 in silent mode without a cabinet hooked up. No problem at all. Fender reps have actually commented on the SB300 manual misrepresentation on this topic.

According to the specs, the GS 412 at 101dB 1W 1M is more efficient than the Bassman 410 Neo that I use, and it gets plenty loud. So the 100T should be a monster with the GS 412.
Definitely yes to part 2; when it's in silent record mode the preamp out works like normal, so you could feed an external power amp with pre out while sending the D.I. to FOH.

thank you
yes the aguilar 412 is a beast with my eden power/navigator BUT i want to gig my 100t
it sounds like i will be fine just feeding the 412 with the fender
very cool!

this thread has been a trip to read, lots of great info to be had
I must tell you guys i am seriously gassin for a super bassman for the HEFT it has been said to produce behind the notes. im sure the 100t is not as hefty
I cannot part with the 100t, but to run both live sounds a treat!!! wish the oxblood would come back round

with regards to the 100t's Di
does anyone have experience using this di in say post eq post power tube mode
vs what you might get from a radial jdi or j48
im curious if the fender di will compete against using a "nice"radial style Di from the preamp out

I've only used it in post mode, and every engineer has loved it. But, I've only used it in a recording session once. I wasn't engineering and I really had no time, or the authority, to analyze or approve the track. The engineer, who has decades of experience. and this is a big analog room, said it was as good of a DI as he'd experienced, but I never really had a chance to talk to him about it later. I loved what I was hearing while tracking, and I loved what little I heard in the control room. Bad deal is there was a rights dispute and it never got released and I never even got a rough mix. But I've used it many times live, usually with the amp in 25 watt mode, and the FOH guys love it. Never heard a comment of it vs. anything else though.

very cool
i am going to try it out on tour and see how it responds
thanks buddy

so I just got an additional 100t as a backup. I got it used and it travelled from Colorado to Minnesota. Upon arrival I noticed one of the tubes was bad. No biggie and replaced. The auto-bias/status lights are going crazy and I can't get any sound other than a gnarly alien. The lights go from all green, to orange/red on tubes 1a/1b, back to green, to orange/red on tubes 2a/2b, back to green, to all tubes red...and on and on. The seller is dealer and is definitely responding and I could return, but this is the blonde/oxblood and I really do want a backup.

Any ideas what is up?

Have you tried maybe using the tubes from your main amp and see if it does the same thing?

There were some significant bias issues with these early on, but by now it should have been fixed by Fender. If this is an early model and the bias circuit is the issue most service agents will be familiar with it and it should be a straightforward repair/part replacement. If it was me I would not let it deter me so long as the seller will get it fixed.

Just to try the easiest things, did you reset the auto bias? Press and hold both the up and down bias buttons buttons for several seconds.

Thinning
The trip will be worth it if it will help you figure things out! But if I remember correctly, some of those 100Ts had bias circuit issues.. this may be one of them.. did you get it at a good price?

Got it for 900
