Fender Bassman 100t Fan?

Hi.. I recently picked a Fender Bassman 100t and I'm wondering if anyone else who owns one can tell me if the fan is thermal,comes on as it hits a certain internal temp,or is it mechanical,comes on when amp is powered up.. Thanks Mark

Nothing at all in the manual about it.

The bad news is that while I was doing a Google search I came across quite a few that failed because of a defect in the cooling circuit. The amps just got way to hot and fried speaker output jacks and several other components.

Thanks.. I'm going to take it to a tech to get the cooling system looked at..:thumbsup:

I just found a post that it is a thermal fan.. It comes on when its at a critical temp..I'm going to give it a good run and see if it does it's job.. I had a Fender Bassman 100 from 1973 and the plates ran red hot. No fan in that one.Never had an issue with it,just under powered for the project I was in at the time..

If you're out of warranty where modding won't matter, a competent tube tech can probably set the thermal trip point for a lower temp than it's currently set for. On many circuits of that type it's a simple matter of substituting one or two resistors

Yeah, that's not a bad idea.
Warranty is not an issue.

Hi,

i called the fender service, they told me that the fan starts at 70° Celsius / about 160°F. That is really hot...

Wow. They did that on purpose? What was the thinking there, I wonder. Studio recording noise?
Last night, I was just contemplating having something done to mine so I could get it to come on earlier if I wanted it to. She does get a bit warm after being on for many hours.
