Squier Jaco-> Fender Bassman 300 pro, ch1, Hi-comp 7, Low-com 5, Mid-notch filter in-> Traynor tc810.

I worried about buying this amp because I had never heard it or used it live. Didn't know if it would have enough power to supply what I was used to (Eden Metro plus 2x10, running 650w at 4ohms). but man, I have waaaay more volume than i will ever use now. and all the headroom in the world. tons of bottom end, and the tone just makes me tingly. I LOVE the pain in my spine every time i lift it up onto the 8x10 cab, cause i know what I'm about to feel like when I get it warmed up. So I did a live recording of our last gig. Hope this helps those of you who are looking at these.

nice tones! killer playing as well. i'm a little shocked you didn't think 300w with an 810 would be as loud as your 210 rig, though...those extra speakers make way up for having less wattage.

yeah, this was my first foray into Tube amps, so I really didn't have any point of reference from experience. Now I do. I was running 4-10's with the Eden. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well I was able to hear myself comparatively. There seems to be a much greater ability for the amp to "push"(?) the lower frequencies faster on attack, and sustain them longer through the decay. I'm not communicating it very well. I have also played a gig with it using just my single 15 yorkville cab, and it still had tons of volume. I was shocked. so, I think it is more due to the amp than the cab, although the 8x10 just flat out kills.

I have a few clips of the same rig using my Musicman Sterling 5. I'll try to get one of those posted tomorrow after I get some shut-eye. some slapping nonsense you know. totally different sound from the fretless, but great in a different way. I'm just so thrilled with this amp that I can't shut up about it.

Any suggestions on what repair tools, tubes, etc. i need to keep on hand? This is my first tube amp and I'm really green. I haven't even thought about tearing into this thing yet. But I'm assuming that I should bias the tubes at least? And probably have a pair on hand in case of emergency? Any help appreciated.

None. Just keep rocking that sucker. Most likely, if you did have a failure, you wouldn't be able to fix it on a gig. However, tube amps rarely fail. You have a great band, and the lead singer has a killer voice.

You really don't need much in tools, screwdriver needle-nose pliers, etc .... with the newer tubes once you get past the first few hours, of play time you should have no issues ... the Bassman 300 power tubes is fused in 3 pairs, and that fuse is an odd ball fuse, so you'll want to have a few around, if it blows a fuse you'll want to have it serviced to find out what caused it ... if your going to set the bias yourself, you will need a good multi-meter ... just let the amp warm-up for about 30 minutes to one hour, new tubes will drift a little, till they settle down, this is what happened to my Bassman 300 ....

How about two Fender Bassman 300 PROs at once!?

In the interest of full disclosure, I don't believe he was using both
300 PROs at once. That is Tommy Shannon on the "Experience Hendrix"
tour and he is most likely using just one 300 PRO. The other was used
by Billy Cox.
