Fender Blacktop Club

I got mine last weekend. Watched it not sell on Craigslist for 2 months and snatched it right up when the price dropped! I love it. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks the volume knobs are really "on/off" switches but that's kind of how I play anyway. And I am really enjoying the chrome pearl color.

Number please kind sir. :)

Woohoo! We're up to fifty members!! :hyper:

Number 49 goes to xrockstrongox and Number 50 goes to Top Timmy! Welcome aboard the S.S. Blacktop!!

Pickguard suggestions for my Blacktop P. I have the white chrome pearl one. I'm thinking white pearloid, black pearloid, black abalone, or tort.

Anyone have a custom pickguard on their P that I could take a look at? I'm seriously torn...I could make a case for any of the above.

Maybe someone good at Photoshop here in the Club could make a couple of mock-ups of a WCP Blacktop with different pickguards...? ;)

Ugh…I see what you're doing. You're trying to get me to 'shop up some more freebies, ain'tcha?! :spam::laugh: Let me get some sleep first, then I'll see if I can cook up something a little later.

Mizzou, post some links with color swatches, or better still, find some guards from WD Music's website and I'll get on to creating…da magicks!!

Oh, and if you want to know if I'm qualified, here's some of my most recent work, inspired by faulkersj's "Bass & Tacos" epic. I started with this…

I think I can handle a few, quick pickguard pics, assuming the guard images are halfway decent. ;)

Won't ask for a number yet, but I'm planning on purchasing a P-bass with the white chrome finish by the end of next week. As soon as it gets here (going for the free shipping, so I'm guessing 2nd week of August) I'm going to replace the knobs. Hopefully I won't have to make any neck adjustments when it arrives. I looked at reviews on the site and they were all positive, but a couple of buyers said the bass needed adjusting in a bad way when they got them.

Those were probably "luck of the draw" situations. My BT Jazz was a special order sent directly to my local Guitar Center from the Fender warehouse. When I cracked it open, I had the in-house guitar tech do a set-up. He said apart from adjusting the string height a little and a minor tweak of the truss rod, it didn't even need a full set-up and didn't charge me a dime.

I'll keep a number warmed-up for you. Just post some pics when you get it and it shall be yours.

Well, I just ordered mine last night from Musician's Friend and it'll probably get here early next week.

Just gonna keep me fingers crossed that it arrives at my house ready to play, cuz it would suck to have to take it somewhere to get adjusted first.

Oh, and you might as well give me that number now.

Edit: Whoops! Just went thru the thread from the beginning and discovered what "No pic=no bass" means. I'll just wait 'til it gets here...no hurry.

:D

So anyway...

I get home from work and there's this big box by my back door, which I figure rightly is my new Fender.

Get it out of the box, take it downstairs to the amp, tune it up, strap it on, play something....

...and it sounds like dog****.

So I immediately put it in the gig bag and head out to the shop, where it gets a very-much-needed neck adjustment.

Since I've brought back home and played some on it it definitely sounds better, but still not as "bassy" as I like. They didn't have any flat-wounds available at the shop, but when they do, I'm going to get some.

Bottom line: it's a keeper, but also a work in progress.
