It sure does look like it might say 82, but the Fullertons had pilot dimples in the wood for the bridge covers, and this one doesn't have em. The belly/forearm contour just doesn't quite seem fullerton 'thin' either.

Fender body - What does this date say?

To me it looks like it says 1882, but that's a bit unlikely. 
The two middle numbers look pretty much the same, so that would tell me that it's a 1992.

Yeah I am just not sure on the contour. It seems thinner than my early 2000 that I owned but I can't remember what my last Fullerton contour was like. About the pilot holes that can go either way. I have seen a few random Fullertons not drilled.

I have seen 2 undrilled with no dimples. I am surprised but I have never seen any undrilled but with dimples it was either undrilled or drilled. So the contours still don't seem thin enough? I can buy that. What's interesting though is that it's definitely more contoured than my new one was and the neck is definitely way thinner front to back (like my Fullerton was) and I know beyond a doubt that it's not dated in the early 80's. So if that wasn't old stock (which I have no reason to believe it was) then they made them thinner for a few more years than I thought. I assumed they got thicker as soon as they started making them in the Corona factory.
There's a second date in smaller type, in the middle near the end that looks like Mar 2 1992 in black ink.
Does anyone have a photo of a early 90's reissue neck pocket to compare? I can find tons of Fullerton photos but no early 90's neck pockets. I specifically want to match that 62PBSB stamp. (just for curiousity sake)
I do see that date (missed it before). Beyond the Mar and the day the year is almost just as illegible. It almost looks like 1986 to me. I have no doubt this body was used on a later era bass I was just seeing if anything shows it to be old stock.
I've changed my mind I don't think the smaller dark text is a date. Or if it is I can't read what it is.

all the fullertons ive seen have the burst that matches the 70's style burst where it doesnt extend up into the neck plate. id say you have a complete early 90's ri. someone in the classifieds sold an early 90s ri jazz a while back that had a pepperoni guard as well. guess they still had them in the early 90's before that horrible one they started using in the mid to late 90's.
Wow Joe...you have just enlightened me to something I never noticed before. I heard of all other identifying factors but never the sunburst ones. I looked at some photos of the Fullerton burst I owned and you are 100% right on. The contours pretty much proved it but the burst makes it 100%. Fran wins the price and the date says 1992. Thanks guys!
