Fender Classic Series 70's Precision

Can anyone give me any feedback on these basses? I know they are discontinued but I am on the hunt for a used one. How do they compare to the American Special Precisions? Would it be a big difference in the tone from my Squier Classic Vibe 60's Precision? And if anyone has a lead on a used one (white) please send me a message.

Here you go! Some bickering followed by some useful info on that thread. Mine is MIJ (2011), sunburst. Killer tone, similar to the CV60 to my ears. Narrowish neck for a P. Heavy poly coat on the back of the neck. Great Japanese craftsmanship. More recent ones are MIM.

P.S. I like this bass better than the American Special; neck on the Special feels too flat front to back for me.

I have a 2012 MIJ one in oly white. Is well made for sure, good fretjob, paint and nice and narrow neck pocket. Never played an american special or CV but i think thease sounds pretty good with the stock mic. The neck is the thinner p-bass profile 1.62 i think. Pretty good hardware aswell, only switched the bridge out because it was slightly corroded, nice and stabile tuners. And i think they was in production 2011-2014. Not sure tho but something like that.

Yeah. I got mine in 2012 new. Might have been made in 2011 tho. It's an MIJ atleast. My serial is T008877. When i serched it it said it was A fuji made one, but in 1995 x'D So can't really say for sure if made in 2011 or 2012. Atleast the quiality of the MIJ ones is high. Can't say if it is as good on the MIM ones tho. If i was to buy another one i would aim for a Japanece one tho. More solid quality usually in those.

^^^If you email Fender customer service, they will send you info on specs, features and date of manufacture for your bass. Your serial number is much higher than others I've seen, so 2012 would make sense.

I have both Am Special and MIJ Classic '70s necks on a couple of my basses right now. Measurements of thickness (front to back) are almost identical, but the profiles (cross section) are quite different.

The Am Special neck has a pronounced flatness across the center. The Classic '70s neck seems (to me) like a slightly rounded "soft V" profile, thicker feeling in the center, and noticeably thinner near the fingerboard edges.

The following pic shows my impression of those two neck profiles.

Finally got this bass in my hands. The previous owner changed out the bridge to a black high mass and the pickup to some sort of EMG. Both will have to go. I prefer the vintage chrome bridge and a more vintage sounding pickup . Considering a Geezer EMG or Fender CS62. And I need to swap out the strings for my TI flats. Its a made in Japan model which was my preference. Tone knob pops and is loose. Should be an easy fix. Bass is otherwise perfect. Feels nice and light. Probably in the 8 lbs range. Love the neck. Fast and sleek . Ill post pics as soon as I get all of the mods done.

Any idea where to find a replacement bridge for one of these?

The used one I picked up came with a black high mass gotoh bridge I think & emg active pickups. I'm removing both and going back to passive and low mass chrome bridge.
If anyone wants to swap pickups / bridges , let me know.

Fender sells a 70s RI bridge as an aftermarket item. I have one, no complaints. I think I paid less than the listed $50 for mine, so shop around.

Like I said in the other thread of yours, you need a standard Fender bridge. The only reason that one is as expensive as that is because they're telling you it's a vintage style bridge, when there is no fundamental difference between it and a regular Fender bridge. You can get one cheaper than that. Have a look here to get an idea of what's available.
