Has any one converted a fender 2x12 to a 4x10 cab? I just picked up a vintage cab and was wondering if I could get a good sound out of it. I have a 4x10 now. The air volume is the same in both so i want to vent the fender aprox the same as the bass cab and drop my speakers in. Hoping to get a better look.(I know I'm a kook) I have a Musicman Head and the fact that the cab dose not match bugs me.

Not worth it. Most modern cabs need to be ported to get good tone (your 4x10 almost certainly is).
You start with speaker specs and build the cabinet based on that info. You can't expect good results by starting with a box and putting speakers in. It'll be a crapshoot. Chances are you won't like the results.
If you want to start with the box you have, then you have to choose speakers that will work properly in that box. That's the hard way, because you have to run repeated trials with WinISD and pick the speakers that work best. Backwards...

If you have a vintage Fender cab, then it probably has the same black tolex and silver grill cloth as the MM head, no? If so then just take the Logo off one of the units. I'm not a fan of mixing cabs and heads either. I had a Fender 212 cab years ago and I don't think it's big enough to hold 4-10s, but maybe you have a different cab. Anyway, key word IS crapshoot as stated. You're better off buying an Avatar 410 with black tolex and silver grill cloth (not sure if they offer that, but I think they do on guitar cabs) or a 212 - at least these cabs have the proper tuning etc....
Yes, cab shape among other factors (porting, bracing, damping, speakers) are critical for bass cabs. No need to wonder any more. Just buy another 4x10 is that's what you want. Do not convert....that would be a waste of effort with failed results trying to build a new baffle board for 10" speakers assuming that four of them would actually fit.2behead said:
I have a carvin 4x10 that I am playing through. The fender cab IS the same size. in fact it is just a pimp bigger, 2 1/2 square inches of air. The logo thing is just silly. The thing that bugs me is a modern carpeted cab with a grill, mixed with a old head. brand has no bearing.

so I did it any how........ I had the time, other bass cabs to use, and I'm a carpenter. Measured the ports on the old cab, ported it the same, the thing sounds great!!!!! looks cool. I now have a beater cab that is vintage that I can crank with out guilt.
