Fender CS jazz vintage pro 1964

IMO and this is from me only playing one CS NOS 59' P bass that FWIW they are not worth the bloated price. The one i played was ok...nothing great with a gap in the neck pocket and stale boring tone. The finish was really nice and the neck /frets were also. I guess for $2200 bones I expect a bass at that price to walk the walk but it didnt. All my P basses a modded MIM , 83' SQ MIJ Squier and a USA 79' P blew this away and didnt cost close to this ...even my 79'P.

Long time P-bass player here with a lot of P-basses under my belt. Every Custom Shop P-bass I've played, and I've played a lot of them, has been stellar. Playing any bass, even a Squier, once in a store is a lousy indicator of whether or not its a good bass.

Well, I had a friend ask the Director of the Fender Custom Shop exactly what was the difference and here's a quote:

"Don't know much about that bass. we make our instruments differently though. Templates, neck shaping is done on a pin router, sanding, body spread is two piece, etc."

I'm not quite sure what that means......I thought all CS basses were made that way (I'm not extremely hip as to how to build a bass, so forgive me)....I wasn't entirely enthused to hear the director of the custom shop tell us that he basically didn't know what I was talking about.....I mean, come on...everything that comes out of there is made in small batches throughout the year, most of the time they are made to order (I have been told).......I'm sure it's a nice bass and I wouldn't mind checking one out, but it doesn't sound like a bass quite on par with the rest of their work...
