achhh..when I was doing research on this bass to make my own, i ran across the Barry article, which is where I found out about the 3 control wiring..I also ended up talking to a collector in Cal who had, at one time, 3 of them..i think he had two when I talked to him. I learned more about the bass from him then from Barry. Little details on how it sounded, as the guy also was a real player, not just some lawyer with too much money and time on his hands * that's NOT Barry btw, who is a great guy..just..never mind... He had managed to get a hold of one of the american market ones too..and said the real diff was the neck..which is why i had the 2 piece maple capped made up blablabla..
As I said above, the thing was heavy, a brute. But the combo of the Seymour P pickup, rotos, over the top compressor, shite Fender low mass bridge and maple neck nailed the Marquee sound..and with a little different eq on the Ashdowns..Live at Leeds as well. Still could never get the Ashdowns to sound like my old Hiwatt 200, but that's another post..
So I was just trying to say here...to the guy who started this mess..MAKE YER OWN! that's usually what JE ended up doing anyway, cobbling together parts from various "precious" Fender products. You'll save a lot of dough with which to purchase various treble boosters, sets of roto's, Marshall 200's and large size bottles of brandy.
