Fender Custom Shop basses

WarwickFan said:
I agree 100%. It's ok to have a custom shop if you offer things not on your regular line, like say you wanted a Jazz bass with a wenge neck or a rosewood body. Warwick has a custom shop to do just that, offer things not available on their standard production line.
Fender's custom shop, ash or alder, maple or rosewood, same thing as the standard guitars only $2000.00 more. Oh, and an extra $500.00 to have some guy beat the heck out of it for that well played look.

Was that really needed!:rollno:

Yeah, my only delima now is whether I do a Nitro Lacquer or Poly (thin coat).. The "purists" are telling me Nitro.. and the part of me that wants this bass to look nice for a long time says Poly! :help:

my issues with nitro have always been with the neck, but you have solved that already....my nitro bodies still look fine, but that neck stickiness is awful!

A little updating for me too. The '64 Jazz bass which i spoke about wneh starting this thread is mine!

I traded an amp for this bass!

A crazy thing called love.

Ops! Sorry man.. didn't mean to steal your thread, but I just wanted to "borrow it" :D

Ok.. so how about some pics of this new love of your life?? Nice hi-rest pornographic ones! :p

First off, incase you missed it, Custom Shop will not only make you a Wenge bass, they'll make one out of anything you darn well please.. Koa, Mahogany etc.. I prefer Ash and Alder, so I opted for those woods. You'll notice my neck wood is Ebony.. have you seen a Jazz with an Ebony neck on the shelf anywhere?

Also, I think the guy you're quoting what pointing how how the CS quality only serves to remind him how lacking the regular MIA (and MIM, CIJ) line is.. and while I sort of disagree with that, as I find MIA and CIJ to be rather nice for their respective price, I don't agree with you that CS only offers the "Same" this for $2000 more.. And AGAIN, while I agree the "Relic" thing is stupid, the additional money people pay, is for VERY talented people to "replicate" a Jaco Bass or a Jeff Beck Guitar (Which btw retails for a staggering $15,000), is their business... I'll so long as they're happy.

Bottom line though, and if you've owned CS basses this should be self evident.. there is a world of difference in them for the additional money, and it's not some waste of money. At least not in my view, or the view of at least 4 other members in this thread with one.

No way on earth is it a waste of Samollians..........CS basses are the best. Plain and simple... If I could afford to go 3-4000.00 on one of those, I wouldn't think twice. I've played 2 of them, and no other Fender bass I've played since , can come any where close to the CS. Sam, I was wondering if the CS makes a 35" scale neck.
Are they available? Like, mainly for a five string? I'm guessing if anyone would know, it would be you...

Having just talked to Dennis about scale, YES. It's a slightly pricing option, and I didn't see a need for me, as I 'm used to the 34" scale with my other basses, but it's about $250 more I believe to go "different" scale... They'll also do anything from 20-26 frets.. It's amazing the range of options, specifications, and customizations they'll do..

People who see an occasional NOS or Relic CS bass in the store can't judge all CS by those... not that there is anything wrong with them, but they're not "one of" customs.. they're just made buy the staff at the CS (usually the assistant Luthiers, and not the Masters, except a few models like the Jeff Beck Guitar, etc.).

Geddy Lee's Red Jazz is a total custom job.. check it out in the "Jazz Bass Thread" I just commented on it.

SamJ,
The Jeff Beck Signature Series Strat (that I am familiar with) is not a Custom Shop item and it costs $1,400. Are you saying that they also offer a Custom Shop Jeff Beck guitar for $15,000?

Here is a steal of a deal on one!

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

btw.. the original one is owned by Seymore Duncan and is what the Custom shop used to model this one.. they were made in a series of 100 I believe.

I liked this bit:

Bananas Item #9700. Fender 015-0061-801 This Item Does Not Qualify for Free Shipping. The Guaranteed Lowest Price! 45 Day Return Policy on Most Items!

And it's a $10.000 guitar!:spit:

that HAS to be a typo!

Can you imagine..

Buyer: "Yes, I'd like to buy the Jeff Beck tribute Guitar, here's my Amex card, charge the $11K to it"

Banana: "Sure, but it's actually $11K + $49 shipping"

Buyer: "Surely you can thru that it"

Banana: "Sorry, not on THIS item"

:D

dude, while I appreciate a good debate like the next guy, you're trolling now :eyebrow: .. don't you think we should stick to the topic? I've rebutted your points on the Custom Shop; address them or just unsubsribe.

Take it from me, arguing over petty things gets you no where here. :smug:

uhhhh customshop... fretless? im guessing if you dig fretless fenders the customshop would be the be all end all? the worst thing is though, how will you know if youll like a CS bass theres no where to go try a CS fretless jazz or a CS fretless P (which im gonna build myself... itll be my custom shop... :)). thats the part that would me make me nervous. i get it in and i would just be like wait... i paid this much money for this?!? (not that it would be abd in anyway, just that it may not be as good as you expect) edit: not bashing the basses just questioning what happens if you dont like the end product?

Sam, I will agree with you, Fender CS basses are very nice. Are they $15-2000.00, or more, better than a Am. Series? IMHO, no. You think they are. That's great. To me that just seems like a lot of money for a Fender, but what do I know, I'm just a troll.
Now, my last post was not directed at you, was it? Since you are a Gold Member and have over 1,300 post since April, you must now think you can police this forum. I don't see moderator by your name.
However, I will yield to the greater intellect, you are the man, Sam.;)

Nick, I could be wrong but I think there is a 100% satisfaction guarantee. How they go about making it good, I don't know, and don't plan to find out! ;)

WarwickFan, just trying to keep this thread on the discussion CS.. didn't try to say you're "only" a troll, but more so that your post was "Trollish" .. sorry if I offended, peace. BTW.. ho would you feel about a Warwich Custom Shop? Entwistle had a bunch, and loved them.

What exactly does this mean? Anyone?

Is there a "ceiling" to the level of quality for all Fenders that is lower than all else? Is that it? Or there's a barrier which Fender can not penetrate because they do not have the talent at the factory? Maybe it's the oft cited "limitations inherent to the antiquated design"?

Believe me when I say I'm not a Fender snob or a CS elitist. Heck, I regret letting go of my old Korean Squire. And to me nothing is cooler than someone really and truly good playin' the sh%t out of something average or sub-par.

But Fender custom shop intstruments are a lot of money because the builders are among the best in the world using the best materials available and taking as much time as needed to get it just right. That costs everybody the same; those things apply to Fender just as much as they apply to any other High-end, Hi-Fi, Boutique, Exotic, or whatever builder.

It means that to me, WarwickFan:hyper: , I would not buy one. Too much money for me.
