Is that the Fender Custom Shop 1962 Precision Journeyman Relic? If so, that's the model I've been considering buying recently. More details please! Is the neck slimmer front to back than the '63 or the American Original series?

Big congrats on your new CS bass!!!

  6. Thank you! Yes it is. It is hard to say if the neck is slimmer as far as feel. It feels like it is roughly the same size as the AV 63 to me. However, the fret ends are VERY well rounded and the roasting makes it feel incredibly smooth instead of glossy.

Did you choose the slab rosewood fretboard over the laminate fretboard? I think, Fender stopped using slab boards mid 61. Yours appears to be slab board from what I can tell.

I'm not sure of the sounds difference between flat lam (slab) and round lam. You can search the forums plenty of discussion on it. Nice bass ... I've been looking for a particular color with rosewood board combination to come up for a while now. Probably should have just ordered one, but I don't want to wait a year to get it... now it's coming up on a year of looking, so not the best strategy on my part.

  11. Funny that they call it laminate when it’s actually a carved radius board.

Right. It's very misleading. Makes it sound cheap.

  16. They originally said it would take 9 months but it took about 5.

Thanks for posting the Shop Traveler...that is very helpful! Looks like the neck thickness is almost the same as my Fender CS '54 style P, which is awesome! It's a touch thicker than the '62 AVRI neck I have which is flatter/thinner than the '63 AVRI.

    Thanks again and enjoy!!!

Joining the club! 2005 NOS ‘64 Jazz. Bought it from a close friend for a great price, and have used it on a bunch of recordings. It’s been my main axe for 5 years.

It can be heard on Spotify if you search for Artist: Love and Japan, Song: “Cold War.” Very prominent in the mix in the quieter third verse :)
