I can truly understand how this may be difficult to digest for some, but a good "relic" job on a bass isn't purely cosmetic. For some, there is an allure of being able to purchase a new instrument that already has the "broken in" feel of the Fenders of yesteryear that are now priced significantly higher than the $5,000 the FCS is asking.

They aren't for everyone, but they're cool for the people that appreciate it.

One thing I like about a relic is there’s never any anxiety about getting a ding in it. They just blend in.

The dings by the FCS are buffed out and rounded over.

My choice is NOS, and it's unlikely I would buy a Relic. I just don't care for the look, and I'm not judging. It's a matter of taste; everyone can choose what they like. I think the fine talent and workmanship that goes into the FCS Relic process is wonderful.

and I also want a P and a J

which bass should be CS , the P because it’s a P … or the J because of the versatility ?

I’d put the money on the bass you are likely to play the most. I don’t see it as a P vs J issue but more of a preference issue. Just my $0.02.

I agree with the above but: Another way to look at it is which P and J do you want? The American Vintage series has a 66 Jazz and a 60s P. But no late 50s P or early 60s J

I understand personal preference. I just love P Basses! My hands prefer 1-3/4” nut width, and the thinner profile of the pre-CBS P necks.

Here are my two CS (2005 ‘58 relic - 2012 ‘59 NOS) and my restored 1959 (originally LPB now Fiesta - with a lite age appropriate relic). The 1959 had a HARD life before me, and went through many modifications before this final ‘light relic’ status.

Tbh, it's the first time I tried the fridge (it was provided by backline). Usually we play smaller venues and I use my Berg HS 210 for that. Great match with the Streamliner as well
