Fender Customshop Passive P with Battery Compartment?

Hi bothers and sisters in bass - I just got my beautiful custom shop precision and it’s passive, but it came with a routed out battery compartment and plastic cover on the back. Does anyone know if this might be because they used a body that was originally designed to be active and just passed it along to me or do they do this for another reason? Thank you.

Direct order to Fender and I picked it up at the factory in Corona.

I’d call them! You spent a good amount of money, all aspects of your order should be CORRECT, or they should make it right!

I’ll do it. I’m a little embarrassed…I mean they don’t have much option except to take it back but I am definitely a little bummed about the unnecessary battery compartment! I even specified a single cut (not glued) body so I could enjoy all that swamp ash but now there’s an ugly battery compartment cut into it!

Wait! I’m an idiot! Just checked the shop traveler and it says “rear-loaded pots” and then I realized there’s no routing or metal plate on the front of the bass covering the electronics! In order to keep the front looking nice and clean, (which you can see in the photo), they put a little plate on the back to load the electronics. Viva Fender!!

That's a BEAUTIFUL bass. But it's pickguardless... so isn't the cover there to give you access to the electronics? (passive, presumably) Have you opened it?

Yes thank you for pointing that out - you’re absolutely right! I did open it to see that is the case.

Only thing now is I don’t like the white electronics access plate. I’m thinking of sending it over to Pickguard Heaven and having them make something in black or even tortoise.
