Fender Decals

Honestly, yes and no. But I'm not proud of it and would I try to argue that my actions were correct or justified and that I had a right to do so? No, especially in a public forum.

We all do things that are wrong. Does that mean we should just ignore all the laws? It's the old "but everyone does it" argument. I hear it from my high school students all the time, whether it's the issue of cheating or downloading music.

That's what I'm getting at. I'd be willing to bet that 100% of the people who've stated their opposition against the decal thing for legal reasons knowingly break other laws themselves.

My point is they have no room to talk. They have no business passing judgement on other people when they uphold and break the laws they choose. That's just plain bs, especially over something as petty as a decal.

I'll confess, it was a hard decision for me to make. I'd been against it forever, not for legal reasons, for poser reasons. I'd never wanted to use one myself before so I'd always grouped those who did as posers, which was narrow minded on my part. With the JB it just looked like it was missing something and while I wanted to do it I thought, "no, you'll look like a poser". And there I was, at an emotional crossroads like in the movies. I realized that although I'd like the decal on the bass I DIDN'T want to put it on beacuse of what other people would think - an ironic dilema. I couldn't sleep for weeks. I felt like I was being untrue to myself by not putting the decal on there. I felt pretty silly too - not about the decal, but for taking so long to think about it. It was a big step, but I "manned up" (as another TBer likes to say) and put the fake decal on because I wanted to, with no regard for what I thought others might think.

I'm breaking the decal law (if there really is one that applies). I'm not saying it's ok. If Fender wants to prosecute me I'll gladly do whatever the court says to make it right.

What about the guy who has a Fender and doesn't like (for what ever reason- lets just say the color) doesn't like the color and buys a Warmoth replacement body and calls it a Fender.

Is it stll a Fender??

Or has a old Fender and gets a replacement neck and slaps a decal on it??

I don't really care myself.
Does it afffect my life like the guy not stopping at the stop sign??
Only if he hits me.......

Specious argument. My behavior neither excuses or condemns another's actions. A subway rider isn't the better judge here.

This type of rationalization is very common. It's dishonest and illogical to think that if someone acts worse than you, then you're OK.
