Fender Dusty Hill

Moot points in this argument.

1. Building a bass yourself: sure I can be way better than a FSC. You don't have to pay yourself labor.

2. Overpriced. Fender thought it would be cool to make a run of basses to Dusty's specs. They have to pay Dusty too. If Sadowsky built a Dusty it would add $2500 to the price too.

3. There are a lot of Fender haters and a lot of Fender lovers in the world. Usually for inane reasons on both sides. Get over yourselves. I think booteek basses look stupid: why would you pay a premium for wood that has fungus in it (spalted)? Only musicians are stupid enough to pay extra for fungus. And don't get me started on the stupid shapes of those basses; although they do go well with the stupid Hawaiian shirts you all wear. :p :D. JK!!!

JK. JK.

4. That's my opinion, but it doesn't make me correct. Just correct in my mind.

This thread should have been shut down after post one. It's just useless smack. However, the voyeur in me is enjoying it immensely. :beaver:

Pretty good post. Except I highly doubt that there is even a handful of people who could build basses = to Jason Smith, Dennis G, et al, even the team-builders at FCS

The thread is only useless IMO when the same old "FCS is evil" concept is stated over and over and over and over here and elsewhere.

Long story short- In the process of obtaining my particular build (It was used for the catalogue shots) I had the occasion to talk to peeps at FCS several times. They totally impressed me with their knowledge and dedication to building great instruments. In particular I conversed with one of the design engineers who did the initial computer mock-ups of the new models. The fact that they sent me some real nice schwag didn't influence my "Fender Love"- that is re-inforced by the bass(es)I own.particularly my FCs model.
I don't think about what it cost me, only that it is a superb instrument. If I pro-rate the cost over the years that I'll play it-
Pretty cheap.

(Obvious troll is obvious)
At risk of returning this conversation to the point, could we just ignore polarizing extreme opinions and state just facts about this particular bass?
There is one looking at me at my favourite store since a while now.
I don't have the cash to buy it, but I understand the appeal.
I just want to be informed, so to those who have tried it: What did you like and what did you not?
For the rest: What do you think of it?
Please, remain civilized ;)

I think it's bad-ass looking, powerful sounding, tribute to Dusty Hill bass guitar. It has a hefty price tag that generally comes with something out of the Fender Custom shop for a number of reasons.

I can put together a pretty mean bass. My rate is $90/hr.

the truth is I see what I like on the Fender site & then go put it together myself. I've done this several times.
Squier AV64 clone with kick ass pickups played better than the real av64 next to it in the store:

More along the lines of copying Fenders I can't afford--AV63 clone. Plays great feels great nice & light. Dropping a lawrence p46 in.
I need to build another Dusty clone though & keep it for mysmelf. Not sell it.

Haaa
That fin is very sharp I have to cover it.
The Dusty is slab isn't it. Even the semi-slab-semi-contour of the aerodyne is uncomfortable to me. I wouldn't like the dusty hill. Gold top contoured body w lefty neck!
