Fender Dusty Hill

Why FCS output gets the sticker shock more so than other $$$ basses escapes me.

I think the main reason is that the original designs had certain "flaws" that facilitated cost-effectiveness and mass production at that time. The concept was affordable and well made tools for working musicians not custom-boutique Instruments. There is simply no reason to NOT have easy trussrod acces or a convenient bridge today, just as an example. And no, it doesn't make it sound better... And keeping those flaws combined with mojo-mumbo-jumbo and a big price tag makes little sense to a lot of people (and a lot of sense for others...)

I don’t know if Bruno still frequents TB, but I am curious if these are stock strings on this clip?

Dang, he makes that look so easy.

I have a rosewood fingerboard 1.5" nut tele style headstock neck waiting for me to drill the holes it needs. Having seen this now, I wonder how the tension differences the lefty headstock compares to the righty style.

No, No, Don't do this to me. lalalalalalala *sticks fingers in ears*

Fender has models with adjustable and high mass bridges and easy access trust rods. Maybe the Elite series is more your thing. Personally, I’m purchasing this bass for other reasons.

Bruno is a large part of why I am purchasing this bass. His well played and recorded demos really showcase the instrument, without a lot of blathering on and allowing the bass to speak for itself. I understand what a P bass is and can look up the specs. I first discovered Bruno after looking up Hofner basses. I then started listening to more of his videos and eventually stumbled onto one of the videos with the Dusty Hill bass. You really get a sense of the tone of this bass from his recordings. So Bruno, I owe you a beer.

That sounds more like it's more your problem than mine. Also, I didn't pay anywhere near $5,000. ;) Also, if you don't like the bass, why are you here?
You are allowed to read my post. It was my answer to why i think fender gets more negative feedback for their big buck basses than other manufacturers for theirs. And what i wrote were just my two cents by which i stand. I didn't atack anyone. I didn't say that i didn't like the bass or anyone who gets/got one. Enjoy playing that Bad Boy... :bassist:

I appreciate your comments to enjoy the bass however, there is something I still think you're missing that I will try to communicate again.

I hope at some point you can see your criteria for what makes a good bass was not the intended design goal for Fender with this model. This model uses a primitive base to build off on purpose. If this doesn't do it for you, there are thousands of other basses that address your bridge and truss rod design concerns. Some of these other basses are even Fenders. :)

Though you didn't say you disliked the bass, you didn't have to, as it was apparent from your comments. My question to you is, why waste your time putting down a bass or company you don't like? You might find you get a little push back when you come to a thread about a bass and then complain said bass is overpriced (to which I agree - I paid a little over half list price) and say it doesn't meet your criteria; a criteria in which it was never intended to meet. Your goals may not be someone else's.

You are not attacking anyone, but then no one said that you were. However, let me ask you something, do you think your comments edify anything or anyone? Why not spend your time on a thread of a bass or player you like and give it praise? Maybe spread some positive vibes around the world?

You say this is why Fender gets more complaints about their expensive basses than any other manufacture. Instead of getting upset at Fender, I just wait until I can get one used on the Classifieds at a decent price or on sale. If a bass never comes down to a comfortable price, I simply don't buy it. However, I don't get on a public forum and announce Fender has made an expensive dud bass. Again, if you don't like a product, don't buy it. The market will dictate what happens to Fender, but it does get a little old when people get on a thread and complain about a product and criticize it for not meeting goals it was never designed to meet. Know what I'm saying?

It's my belief the Dusty Hill bass will make a great instrument for my playing needs. I like it because it's the only single pickup P bass Fender offers with a jazz nut, that is light weight ash (7.11 lbs), and has what I would consider a sweet tone, among other funky appointments. Your millage may vary. :)

again: i was just answering classic69's question, taking part in a conversation that went on for some pages and i specifically pointed out that i think that those are reasons why fender gets criticized by some people. so thats what my comment "edified". i don't have a problem with fender basses or with expensive basses or with fender in general and i think everybody should get what they want to get. i really don't understand what offended you. if i go through the other pages there are some harsher comments than mine that go in the same direction and from reading this last answer from you, it sounds like you consider 5000 bucks too much for this bass too (for which you will have your reasons even if it's not about truss rod acces or bridge design) and therefore waited to get it for less. so i think we're not so far off each others pages here.

From NBD and hate it.. Am I missing something? thread.

with fender you always pay a huge part for advertising and endorsement costs of the company... so dollar for dollar you should get a nicer instrument from pretty much every other bass builder...

That's cool bench. You don't like Fenders. No biggie.

I don't know how else to put it. There were harsher comments earlier in the thread, but I don't wish to stir that pot. I have only commented to you as your comments came after I entered the thread. It's not so much that I'm offended by what you said but rather surprised at what you have omitted. The Dusty Hill bass was not intended to meet the design goals you mention. I don't know what other way to put it and yet you still choose to talk past it.

My reason for not spending $5000 is that there has yet to be a bass made on which I would spend $5000. Also, in the states the street price is running around $4100.

EDIT: Also I don't think classic69 received your post. He's been banned.
