perhaps it's the quantity of product that's the issue here.
Think on this: Fender makes so many basses a day and requires that each of their distributors order and stock so many basses at any given time that perhaps, while all are fairly well set up when they leave the factory, time in transit, months in the stock room, then months on the sales floor leave them in less than pristine condition.
