Fender FSR Club

I got this off the Fender website:

"FSR" stands for Fender Special Run. These products are specially commissioned by individual dealers and built to their specifications. As they aren't regular production models, FSR instruments and amps aren't generally available to every dealer, and Fender seldom provide specs or listings for them on its website. Your local dealer, however, should be able to provide detailed specs for any FSR products they offer.

I believe this is still MOSTLY true, however, over the last 18 months Fender has been "broadening" their use of the "FSR" designation to include product not commissioned by a retailer and to include MIA products. There are a few other examples of both commissioned and Fender factory "FSR" basses. Here are some that I am aware of:

1. GC commissioned Fender to produce a run of the 60th Anniversary P bass in sunburst. The only place to get it was GC. This is a MIA bass.

2. Last year the Fender factory did a "FSR" edition of both a MIA P and Jazz bass. These basses were available in either mahogany or wine hand-stained finishes. The mahogany versions had maple fret boards. The wine versions had rosewood fret boards. Each model and finish was limited to 150 pieces world-wide. Here is a link from Elderly Music for the MIA FSR hand-stained mahogany P bass. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

3. Also last year, GC commissioned a version of these hand-stained basses, both P and J, in a natural finish.

4. The MIM GC special P and J special run referenced in this post.

I suspect there may be others that I'm not aware of. For example, I know there are dealers who commission the Fender Custom Shop for small numbers of specially spec'ed basses. I'm not sure I would consider them FSR.

Anyways, what I know and my two cents.

All right pica, time to get busy assigning numbers! That onerous duty is what kept me from forming this club a while back...but thanks for stepping up!

I was hoping to avoid that but I guess it was inevitable.

pica, based on your previous thread, I ordered one just like yours. It will not come until late February (on backorder.) I'll want a number when it arrives!

I'll be sure to post pics as well so we can compare wood grain patterns...

Congratulations subtlestew, hope you love yours as much as I love mine. Can't wait to see the pics. Welcome to the club.

I'm in. I love this bass.

WOW, you guys have posted some great looking basses. I honestly did not know the FSR came in so many different colors. They all look great.

PLEASE NOTE: Instead of making a new list every time a new member joins, I'm just going to add them to the list already posted.
