the serial number listed is not from 1982 afaik. why do you think the bass is an '82? any pics of the neck heel and pot codes available? what is the provenance of the bass as you know it, and is there any chance the neck and body come from different eras? or perhaps the neck plate was swapped out?

The s/n n my ‘82 pbass is V0093xx. I’m not sure if they’re consecutive, but a difference of 7k units in the same year is unlikely.

Serial numbers were totally random back then. There is a scale of what numbers appear during the Fullerton years and that number is within that scale so its likely a Fullerton but without taking a look at other identifiers its tough to say what year it was made. Also because the SN is on the neckplate all we can say for sure is that the neckplate would have been assigned to a reissue instrument of some kind during the early 80's. In other words....lets see some photos!! Thats what we love!

right at the cusp of the transition. my V004 body and neck are dated months apart late 82 early 83. lets see some neck pocket/heel pics!

Posted here before. Here’s my V003 that GC sold as a 97 MIJ pb62 about 18mo ago. Many basses have come and gone but this one is staying in the family! Maybe not a choice body as it appears to be 5 pieces. Feels and sounds the part though!

Has anyone else experiencing this kind of checking? I’m in SoCal and it isn’t exposed to extreme cold

Serienumrene var helt tilfeldige den gang. Det er en skala over hvilke tall som vises i løpet av Fullerton-årene, og det tallet er innenfor den skalaen, så det er sannsynligvis en Fullerton, men uten å se på andre identifikatorer er det vanskelig å si hvilket år det ble laget. Også fordi SN er på halsplaten er alt vi kan si med sikkerhet at halsplaten ville blitt tildelt et gjenutgivelsesinstrument av noe slag på begynnelsen av 80-tallet. Med andre ord....la se noen bilder!! Det er det vi elsker!

Looks like december 3. 1982 on the neck, and march 18. 1983 on the body

I would guess that if the pots are original they likely date to 1983 as well. Looks like a Fullerton reissue. Even has the really deep sunken truss rod nut they all get.

Where did you get the bass? Overseas? I wonder if the late serialization has something to do with it being an export? Idk

The body is March 1983 so that bass might not have hit market until later in 1983. The story I was always told is that those serialized neck plates were just in a bin and they grabbed whatever out of it. So I don't think its really all that odd.

I live in Norway and bought it used here. I don't know the full history of it..
