yes, it does. some of the Fullerton reissues were finished in sunburst and then oversprayed another color such as solid red, white, or black at the factory, duplicating the original custom color finishing process from earlier decades.

This is the same as mine. December '82 on the neck and early '83 on the body/parts.

Hi everyone. I haven’t visited for awhile. I’m considering letting go of my 83 “62” P Fullerton since my pre-CBS is getting my attention. I hate to relegate this amazing Fullerton to its case. I’m gauging possible interest here for the right buyer. This post is not a “for sale” ad. I will only sell the bass here on TB from a listing I may post. So please dont PM me about buying from this post. Just leave feedback here in the thread. I won’t be pricing it outrageously, but it won’t be a steal either. If there is serious interest here, I will list it in the classifieds, but things seem to be a little slow right now for selling, so, if there isn’t current, serious interest here with the real fans, I’ll just sell it locally, privately.

Hi,

can you please let me know whether this marking in the neck pocket is common for 1983 Fullerton Jazz Basses? The production date is missing and there is no stamp visible. My friend has some doubts whether the body is original 1983 Fullerton AVRI body. Neck is dated 1-6-83 with G. Garcia name on it.

Its tough to say right from that photo. There are some identifiers but they aren't easy to see from that angle. One of the first things to check is if it has a router bump on the side of the neck pocket. Its on the side not visible here. I will say it doesn't look like that exists but it could just not be easy to spot here. If it doesn't have that you know right away that its not a Fullerton body.

@Ladze Can you post a photo of the back of the body? There are a few unique identifiers for the '83/'84 Fullerton AVS reissues.

By the way, my 1983 Fullerton '62 reissue Precision doesn't have a date stamp in the neck pocket but every other indicator is present for being a Fullerton reissue.

So is it definitely Fullerton?

That's a Fullerton body from what I see. It has the router hump by the neck plate in the lower horn cutout. It also has the deep belly contour which extends further towards the neck plate. (It is about midway to the neck plate vs a belly contour for all others after that doesn't extend as far to the neck plate.)

One other mark to confirm is that you may be able to see a filled screw/nail hole in the center of the back body about an inch or 2 from the bottom strap button. It shows easier through 3TSB finish but a slight indent may show through the white nitro.

Apart from the finishes being different (mine is a burst), your bass has all of the same Fullerton AVRI earmarks as my 83 Jazz Bass.

The aged blonde with the tort is one of the best combinations ever!!

For all of the great basses that we miss out on, it's doubly nice when one happens to fall into our lap.

I couldn't sleep last night so I sat in bed casually browsing the various sites and such on my iPad. One of the sites I happened upon was Norman's Rare Guitars in Tarzana. Normally, everything they have to offer is more than I wish to spend, but amongst their listings was a '57 AVRI that caught my eye. Their ad merely said "Used Fender P-Bass Re-issue Sunburst". They didn't list a year and the photos were hopelessly small. By zooming in with my iPad I was able to see the serial number (which suggested it was a 1983/84).

I called this morning, asked them to send me a photo of the neck date, and what'dya know but it was made on December 10th 1982. Best of all, the bass is pristine, comes with the original case, and the price was very very affordable.

This just goes to show that it's possible to find great basses in great condition.

I'll share more pics as soon as the bass arrives.
