Fender, Gibson, or Carvin?

Gibson Rippers are excellent. At least real vintage USA ones. Don't know about any reissues as I have only played originals.

Fender invented the bass guitar and nailed it.

Carvin makes wildly superior feeling imho basses for only slightly higher prices.

I love all three. I own a Carvin.

This. I really liked a '75 Ripper I once played. It just sounded muddy in the low-end...

Funny cartoon but based on the reactions in this thread the guy in the red shirt should be saying "Gibson" not Carvin.
I have 3 Gibsons from different eras and love each one dearly.
I don't have anything negative to say about Carvin or Fender either.
Can't we all just get along?

I'd love to have a nice Victory Artist bass, but really have no GAS for Fenders whatsoever.
I have a VM Jazz and it satisfies what little need I have for Fender content.
Ricks are really my thing as far as basses go.

A Dingwall Super J would as close as I'd get to any kind of real GAS now.

In the guitar milieu, I love Strats.
Les Pauls don't feel right to me, and I couldn't stand playing a 335. Felt way too big and awkward.
The best Strat I've ever played was our guitar player's G&L Legacy.
A real beauty, though pretty touchy regarding weather changes.

I recently sold my '11 Fender American standard P Bass. I played around with a wide variety of strings from flat wounds to DR High Beams rounds in search of the right tone for both finger style and pick playing. Never quite happy. I owned a '68 Fender P Bass when I was a kid, but must not have been as particular about the tone back then.

I've found the tone I was looking for with a '02 Gibson Les Paul custom w/Warwick bridge hardware ... DR High Beams. Great clarity, sustain and tone variation. More than I could ever hope for out of my P Basses. Playing thru a Peavey VB2 tube head & Ampeg Heritage 410HLF ... Couldn't be more pleased!! By the way ... Everything is AMERICAN made as well!!
