Fender probably knows the lawsuit is a long shot, but if they play their cards right they could bankrupt PRS through litigation. I suspect John Mayer is to blame for this. He left Fender after they made his signature Strat for almost a decade, and immediately partnered with PRS to make a Fender copy. John has left a path of broken hearts in his path. Fender's heart not only cracked, it turned black. This is heartbreak warfare.... for real.
There's a good interview with John Mayer where he explains (from his perspective) why he left Fender. My summary: A lack of Artist Relation care and them not wanting his input or taking his advice or suggestions, and limiting the number of promo guitars they sent him to two per year (as I recall). Eventually he realised he was talking to a faceless corporation who don't care or value their ambassadors.
So he went and spoke with PRS and was talking to real guitar builders about guitars as well as having the company listen and chat with him.
All quite interesting.

All the companies served have teamed up just like they did last time. And with the same attorney who mopped the floor with Fender last time.

This won't end well for Fender. They never made great stuff, they stopped innovating in the 90s, they are entirely a lifestyle/nostalgia brand, and their prices are ridiculous, especially for their quality which lately is garbage. And now people hate them for being bullies picking on the small kids.

Bye, Fender.
I was looking at the prices of their necks and they're insane for what you get. $1100 Canadian! Leo Fender's intention was that when a refret is needed, you just buy a new neck! But the necks cost much more than a refret because of Fender's greed

Guess they saw how everyone mocked Gibson for doing this, and thought "let's do that, too!" 🙄

What gets me, though, is that Rickenbacker is the worst offender of producing crap & suing anyone that cops their aesthetics, but no one seems to care.
If Fender had not ignored it for over 50 years most people wouldn't care! You can't ignore it for 50 plus years and allow a huge industry to develop and then cry foul! Fender has referenced copies in their marketing campaigns in the past, it is mentioned in the response letter sent to Fender
