Fender Idenification

Well, I looked under the PG and found a penny dated 1990. I guess that's how mine was dated.

Serial N9 + Digits.

SO I guess it's a 1990 American Standard Jazz (Tritone Burst w/RW Fretboard)

That would be a 1999 not a 1990. The N designates the 90's and the second digit is the exact year in the 90's. Thus 1990.

No one at Fender put that penny there.

Check the date on the neck. That way you know for sure. I would almost bet that penny was put on by a previous owner. Or are you the original owner? You profile says you're 14 so my guess is that you didn't buy a bass 10 years ago :)

I know that there is info saying N9 can be 1990 but I would say that 98% of the time it will be a 1999 model. Like I said crack the neck and check the heel.

How do I tell the difference in a Mexican,Japanese or American made Bass from Fender? There is a P bass for 200 bucks close buy and I may be interested in it.If it checks out ok

Just took some pics of my basses! Look:

Quite a few Fender Strats,Teles,P and Jazz basses left the factory in 1990 with N9XXXXX serial numbers. The easiest way to tell if it's a 1990 is the placement of the serial number. Front of the headstock is 1990, plus it will not have a string through body and trussrod adjustment will be at the headstock not at the heel. 94/95 was the transition year at Fender when the serials moved to the back of the headstock, trussrod adjustment moved to the heel and the bodies became string through.

I have a 99.

String-through, truss by pickups, serial closer to the neck, on the back.
