Fender Japan experts: serial number on headstock?

Hi everybody,

I do not know a lot about Fender´s serial numbers and I would like to ask you something.

Is there a Japanese Jazz bass that has the serial number in the headstock?
The one I was planning to buy is circa 2008 and has a decal in the headstock that reads "serial number xxxxx" under de Fender logo.

It begins with an R, but I have tried some web sites like Fender support and they do not recognize the number.

My CIJ Jazz bass has the ser.# on the heel of the neck.

If it's a Seventies-reissue for the domestic market, it's possible

My MIJ Jag has the serial number on the heel too. Every Japanese Fender I've seen does but that doesn't mean much, they could have made heaps with the number on the headstock I guess... I've just never seen one.
