The Black Japanese mini-J came yesterday (very fast shipping) - factory sealed. I'm amazed at the quality - it's a nice as my AStandard J, if not nicer - just a beautiful piece end to end - smooth and silky and flawless. It was set up OK and I was playing it 15 minutes after it came. Strings seem better than what you generally get on a Fender here in the states - maybe it's my imagination, not sure. Sound is very good - it's got more thump than any full sized stock J I've played - I expected that from a shortie. But it's still got a good Fender J sound - it's real Fender J, no question. Does it sound as good as my AStandard J5 with pressure wounds - no it does not. But it sounds very good and I played it for 3 hours with no ill effects.
Thanks for all the info. Everybody here was spot on - even though I paid a good bit more than what it cost when they were still making them, it's money well spent for me.
