+1It's not the original tort guard. I have a 72 Jazz and I'm the original owner. Mine and all of the original ones I've seen have the brown 4 ply tort guard - not the red as shown in the picture.
My '72 jazz bass pickguard.I am looking for an original pickguard to my Fender Jazz '72. Does anybody know which color that the sunburst had in those days?

Here's a pic of my '72 Precision (with its original pickguard). I'm assuming the color of the tort would be the same as used on a '72 Jazz....

I put a Brown Tort Pickguard on my 1973 Precision that I got from Axerus.com that matches the original I removed 20 odd years ago. It cost GBP15.00.
