Fender Jazz '72 - Original color on pickguard

I am looking for an original pickguard to my Fender Jazz '72. Does anybody know which color that the sunburst had in those days?

It's not the original tort guard. I have a 72 Jazz and I'm the original owner. Mine and all of the original ones I've seen have the brown 4 ply tort guard - not the red as shown in the picture.

Well anybody selling vintage parts, knows to put them on ebay because they'll get top dollar. Expect to see 250-350 for a period correct tort Jazz ('66-'73).

On the topic of pickguards, why is it that no one can make a tort pickguard that looks like the old ones? If they could make them then, why not now? Now-a-days the patterns are all swirly as opposed to that beautiful blotchy pattern of old.

I put a Brown Tort Pickguard on my 1973 Precision that I got from Axerus.com that matches the original I removed 20 odd years ago. It cost GBP15.00.

I have to confess the pic came from the previous owner...but the bass is mine. So, no Saab in my driveway...just a Mazda6 and Saturn Vue (but the Mazda6 rocks).
