The classic quintessential Jazz Bass is entirely passive. Fender only makes a few models of active Jazz Basses. Check out their website for all you ever wanted to know about current Fender Jazzes.
Now as for Jazz bass copies, ie. boutique basses, I'd say most are active. Most budget Jazz Bass copies will most likely be passive.
What about the ones with the new S-1 feature? Aren't they active or is that something different? I recently saw one at my guitar store but wasn't too sure about it.
