Fender Jazz MIA - Which model?

I have just purchased this rather beaten up Jazz for a good price (at UK prices that is). It was described as a 1962 re-issue in Lake Placid Blue, but I was happy to pay the asking price as if it was a standard MIA (which is what I think it is).

The bass is passive, with a strung through body. Further pics can be found [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Even though the body has got several chips, I was amazed at the tonal improvement over my MIJ Jazz, which up till now I thought was ace.

mine doesn't say Corona California
it just can the Fender logo etched at an angle

That appears to me to be a MIA standard 1998 jazz bass my friend! The tuners, control plate, pickguard, Fender logo are all dead give away's.

Why do you say it was rather beaten up? It looks like its in pretty decent condition to me. Was the neck warped or something?

The neckplate on my 2000 MIA jazz is the same as his.

Looks like a standard USA passive Jazz bass. I have a '97 5 string that's a lot like that. FANTASTIC bass!!!!

Why do you say it was rather beaten up? It looks like its in pretty decent condition to me. Was the neck warped or something?

Apologies. When I said beaten up, what I meant was that it had not been treated with the respect that it was due (i.e. the paint had been chipped off on the front and bottom of the bass, and a couple of minor dings on the back of the neck. I must admit that it actually isn't in bad nick apart from those dings. The neck is straight and true, and the frets have plenty of wear left on them.

It included the standard Fender hard case, complete with truss tool, manual etc and cost me £370. Overall a fair price.

I am quite satisfied that it is the standard model for that price.

One question, from the pics, is the colour description correct as "Lake Placid blue"?

I totally agree. I was thinking of selling this one on, until I played it!!! Now my lovely mid 80's MIJ Jazz is going to have to go (which I thought I would never say!)
