MiM Jazz basses prior to 2001 have awful pickups. A Jazz bass is supposed to have a bridge pickup that is slight longer then the neck pickup and reverse wound. That isn't the case with the MiM Jazz basses prior to 2001, they are basically two neck pickups, not reverse wound so they don't hum cancel. Also, if you plan on replacing the pickups with a set of Jazz bass pickups like the Fender '62 reissues, be warned that the bridge pickup routing needs to be longer in order to accommodate the correct bridge pickup size.
Any MiM Jazz bass that I've owned that was from the 90's I would replace the bridge, tuners, pickups, knobs and pots.
