Strictly one guy’s opinion, but i’ve never been much of a fan of B&B necks. I’ve looked at a lot of used basses and it’s rare to find an older bass with a fully intact B&B neck. It’s loose/misshaped/cracked/loose/missing/discolored binding which my OCD just can’t get past. You don’t see much problem with the blocks beyond cracks and chunks missing but i’ve seen them discolored as if they have moisture trapped in them and i’ve also seen them coming up around the edges. It’s not always the looks either. I’ve played a lot of B&B necks with rattles and other odd noises i rarely hear in plain necks. This kind of stuff was so common back in the day when i was looking at basses almost daily i eventually quit looking at any used bass with a B&B neck.
If it doesn’t have to be Fender find one of these, 70s style neck, 60s pickup spacing,USA Hipshot hardware, bone nut..BOOM!!
I am not so sure about that. At least as far as I am concerned my 1977 Aria/Matsumoku Pro-II Precise (Fender Lawsuit) is a jazz bass. At least I consider it to be so. Actually, I like it better than any "real" Fender that I have ever played.
But then again I like Lakland Jazz basses better than Fenders too.
I don't buy names. I buy instruments. Within all of those series, there are dogs and there are keepers. Put me in the camp of I don't buy a bass I haven't touched and played and more importantly, one that doesn't call to me as being special.

I voted AVRI 62. I'd suggest adding an American Original 60's to your list.
USA Geddy Lee. Not just the jazz bass, but the bass to own.
If you live near a metro area like Nashvegas, I suggest you play as many as you can. Its the individual instrument, the one that screams "I am the one", that's the one. One will stand out. What particular model is not important. Does it play great and sound great, does it stand out from the pack? My opinion doesn't help you because the connection has to be between you and the instrument, not me and the instrument.
Right on the Money! (Yep right downtown Smashville...) That said, I played and looked and and put on the SCALE scores of basses and it APPEARS for me (and if that instrument stays on the shelf) that the winner is.....

Fender American Original '60s in Candy Apple Red. I LOVE everything about it and it wasn't even on the list. (I do admit that to the laymen, these might look like the same bass, just in different colors!)
I agree with the two that mentioned the 60's American Original Jazz ... I have had this for about a year, and I'm loving it. I would love to try the new Postmodern Journeyman Relic. P body with a Jazz neck. And has a slight relic. Those are up there in price though. I saw Chicago Music was selling one for $3900.
The 62 is the only one on this list with Stack knobs. I was on the fence with the 62 at one time but I read way too many posts that VVT is much better(subjective) and easier to adjust on the fly, which is why I didn't buy the 62. Also, I read that adjusting the truss has to be done by removing the neck--another reason I didn't buy it. Good luck!
Yeah could be..I tried a few out in the store and it sounded good but like others, I felt better and more at home with the VVT. But many people really dig them for the look and the control of both pickups individually. All personal preference as usual
Ok... SO, well... hmmmm.... I went back to play this and another pro jazz and WOW are those Elite P's awesome. Got blindsided by a maple over flame... Sooooo many tonal choices, great feel and balance. Thought it couldn't get any tougher!
Overcome by GAS, Jim struggles to reach his result overwhelmed with the ever deepening vortex that is the ultimate Jazz Bass. From a distance, he he hears a faint call, " Jaco, Adam Clayton and Geddy are coming your way on a boat and will save you.....with a RIC 4003!!!!

Just got a 70’s original and man it is dope. Had an AVRI 74 and definitely like the AO better. TB blasphemy but it sounds every bit as good as my 70s Moollon 5 when played alone. Am taking it on the road this weekend to hear it with the band but so far so good. Really really dig it.
