Fender Jazz - too many to choose from!

Which Fender would be a keeper!?

At least I stayed in the 60s! I just picked up one of these for $200 off MSRP. Actual pictures to follow along with my "impression" of the bass. GC impressions were strong. I put it against a Performer and a Pro. Will truly say the Pro ALMOST won out. I went with the "deal of the day" and the "resale" (RIGHT!) and the blue AO over a white Pro. Thanks for participating even if we all knew I would flip-flop in the end!

There's a third and a fourth option! I took my AO back for two reasons. It was right at 9lbs so on the cusp for weight, AND I couldn't see the clay dots! Like WOW! I didn't see that one coming. I tried to "get over it" because the sounds from that AO '60s it so fat and downlow, but no use. I exchanged it for the blue P/J performer. It's 7 oz. lighter and the maple with the black dots can't be missed.... Ok so that brings us to today, where I just cold ordered the new MIJ Fender '60s Black over gold precision. If that bass balances or sounds better, then the performer it's also out! WOW, so glad to have 45 days to return stuff to GC. I'm getting my monies worth for sure!

Star date 52-20258 - Jim returns ALL previous entries for the CLEAR winner for price/fit/finish/weight... matching headstock, 7.25 radius... a GREAT neck profile and BONE nut! Come on.....

Seriously guys this one ticks all the extra "Jim" boxes... Headstock, MIJ over MIM, Basswood which I LOVE, to help keep the weight down. It's a keeper, took all the plastic-wrap off so it's MINE. That said, I've got a TON of aged nickle to include Gotoh res-o-lite tuners and also other screws and hardware.

DISCLAIMER:
Hands down the AO MIA sounded the deepest to me and the "best" overall and I LOVED the finish and the feel, but I couldn't see the clay dots and it was 9lbs. So I also couldn't see removing the tuners. The performer MIA also has a nice tone, balance and feel, but the tone is not as deep by far over the AO, but the finish on the satin just didn't do it for me! I would still consider that bass in the rosewood/burst with the gloss. I'm usually a REAL MIA snob but in this case, I could't see spending over double on a 60's AO when a 60's Traditional P MIJ has a "real" 7.25 radius. I put $200 in hardware (because i want to) and another $200 in guts and pickup and I'm still a little over half the cost, with a "custom" bass that's extra lite but balanced. WINNER!!! .... .... now off to musicmasters :) Short scale here we come!
