fender jazz vs mm stingray

Both great basses. I've owned a ton of Jazzes. I've only owned two 'Rays: One was a '90s 3-band, one was a 2011 Classic. Both single humbuckers.

From a comfort factor, the Jazz wins every time for me. It just feels "right". Two things I never cared for with the 'Rays are that they seem "bottom-heavy" to me when I play sitting down; and if I anchor my thumb on the pickup, I don't like that position on the single H 'Ray. On the Jazz, I anchor on the neck pickup (at least when I'm playing the E string). I move my thumb from string to string when playing on other strings.

I love the looks of the 'Rays, and I like the tone a lot as well. But as hard as I've tried to like them, overall I just feel so much more comfortable on a Jazz or a P. But of course it's all personal preference.

You really MUST take this words as a BIG ADVICE. IMHO i really dont know why, but for some reason, the ergonomics of EBMM basses (stingray/sterling i had) tends to be bottom heavy, meaning at least to me the bass tends to go really low and your finger position for being really relaxed needs to be placed between PU and bridge. And if you hang the bass higher youll be ending with a really high position neck¡ As i said before, it was my own experience, but i fell Jazz tends to sit more comfortable sitting or at playing position¡

I've always been more of a passive tone sort of guy so tone-wise I like the Jazz - but like I said, that's just the sound I like. I've never owned a Stingray but I did own a '94 Sterling for a couple years - as far as build quality, materials, noise-floor and so on EBMM - at least in the instance of that bass - puts out a fantastic product. Just not with my favourite default tones. It still comes down to what sounds better to you.

I'm finding my Stingray, tho it has its pros, isn't very diverse, especially in a recording situation. It's very clicky as well (even with high turned down) unless i play really soft, then i lose my feel a bit. I haven't tried lowering the PU yet though. Also heard a different pre would help...
