Fender Micro Neck Adjust

I'm on a continual quest to learn. Neck angles are keywords here.

Could someone enlighten me on the workings of the Fender Micro neck adjustment system? Why to adjust, how to adjust, pros, cons etc.

My bass has this system and I'm very curious. One obvervation I have on my bass is that lower side of the neck plate, around the center screw, is raised from the body. There is a slight air gap (1mm or less) between the body and the plate. Should the plate be flush with the body, or is this all part of the micro adjustment system?

Adjusting the pitch of the neck is a perk of having a bolt-on bass. With a set neck or neckthrough bass, you're stuck with the set angle, which may not even be an issue. Essentially, the micro-tilt is sorta like having the ability to shim the neck without removing it.

When to do it? That kinda depends on your playing style.
