Fender MIJ Geddy Lee VS JB-75

Just FYI Warmoth makes a thin neck that is between the American and CIJ/Mexico Geddy Lee necks, and you also get that black blocking or White awith the binding too.
Looking myself to be ordering one for a Tele bass project this year.
And every now and then they do pop up on Flea Bay from Stratosphere, got one for my PJ project.

Bass comes tomorrow! I will update then.
Wanna replace the pickguard with a black one, and suitable ones seem few and far between, so I'll probably pull the original and swap it out with one from pickguard planet, since their prices are pretty decent.

I've definitely been thinking about building a Frankenbass for awhile and have been keeping my eye on Stratosphere a ton. Some of the loaded options are tempting. Pretty sure that either that or [MAYBE] a Dunable yeti bass ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) will be the way I go next time.
I've been pretty set on either the GL or the JB75 for just about the last year. I'm pretty stoked to get my hands on it.

You could also try WD Music: Invalid Link Removed looks like it has the right holes (tug bar especially), and based on the reviews has been used for a JB75. You could always ask them to make sure, though.

Alright. Unpacked, unwrapped, tuned and jammed on for a little bit.
First of all, Mike and Mike's did an incredible job prepping it for shipping, so I think that's worth noting. Super easy to deal with, responsive to questions: Big rec - particularly if you're looking for any Japan - not for export instruments. They have a TON of rad stuff.
Initial Reaction:
I love the neck. It's a little heftier than the Aero (a very little bit), but still really fast. I doubt there will be much adjusting. It already feels just right. I'd say, while it might not technically be a "slim" c, it's on the slimmer side for a J neck, especially compared to it's American counterparts. Feels great.
Fit and finish are super nice. No surprises here. It's 16 years old and has a 3 chips. I'm debating whether or not to do anything about them. They're not really noticeable for anyone but me, and I knew they were there. They don't bother me at this point, so I might just leave as is. I love the three tone burst and the flaming is nice throughout. I still do think I want to change out the WBW pickguard for a BWB, but I'm going to live with it for awhile before I do so.
The maple fretboard and blocks are gorgeous and feel great. I like the look of them more in person than I thought I would - the inlays pop, and even though the white binding is subtle, I dig it.
All the electronics work as they should and sound pretty good on my recording set up, but I won't be able to give it a real go on my rig until tomorrow at practice. The pots sound and seem super clean and the tonal response seems nice up and down the neck - no buzzing anywhere.
As of right now the action is a bit higher than I'd like and I haven't changed out the strings to my preferred ones yet, but I'll do that after it's set up. This dude is HEAVY and I like it.
So without having REALLY played with it, my hot take is it's a damn nice bass that I very much like the feel of. I'll get to know it better over the next few weeks, but I'm happy I went this way as of right now. Solid purchase.

Wow! I can't believe I haven't seen this thread yet! I own a 2003 Fender Japan JB-75 and a 1998 Geddy Lee Jazz bass.
I've done a lot of mods to both of them, especially the JB-75. I prefer the neck on the Geddy although the other neck isn't bad at all. I once tried a USA Geddy and I thought the neck was very similar to my JB-75.

Yep, I've had plenty of rosewood and a few ebony (my fav, I think) and generally prefer the darker wood, but decided to try out the maple. So far, this might be my new fave, even if I'm still partial to ebony.
My first guitar was maple but that was so long ago and I was too young to notice/care if the neck was shiny or not. But since then, rosewood all the way and I developed a bit of an unreasonable bias against maple until recently. Turns out it's a perfectly fine fretboard material after all!
How secure does the neck feel with that three-bolt setup? The original three-bolt design has a bad reputation, being blamed for Fenders of that era having 'floppy' necks but I wonder how much of that is actually poor factory standards of the time resulting in a sloppy neck pocket, which I would imagine would not be a problem on an MIJ (my MIJ jazz has a very very tight neck pocket)

As I would expect.
Incidentally, I really like how it looks. Fender was on point when they incorporated it on that reissue, almost makes up for the "wrong" pickup spacing!
