The general excuse for anything any more and i'm really tired of hearing it.
Oh, um... we had to ******* because of the economy. Yea... it's the economy.
I'm not being political... personally I feel that often businesses will use such excuses for price hikes, layoffs, product changes, etc etc etc that they're not as willing to pull off in a better economy. Easier to do it and have a hot-topic to blame it on.
.
This is typically what happens when someone sits and maybe listens to the news in the background while doing something else. They become lead to believe that they are educated in a matter that is a serious problem to business owners.
I hope you first hand experience the effects of the economy someday soon, that way you can understand how business owners feel currently.
This is your typical "they are out to get us" type of thinking that leads to many questionable conspiracy theorists.
Maybe YOU are out to get us, and during a bad economy, you complain and complain and make everyone feel worse about spending money, further driving the "I don't want to spend" mentality, and ruining our economy even more.
Hows that for a conspiracy?
My father owns a local restaurant and I can assure you that the price hike for 2009 was not a preconceived idea that was put off simply because the economy was doing well at that point in time.
In other words, we were not waiting for the perfect excuse, as you may see it, to increase prices. Rather, price increases are due to the supplier who exports raw materials(like wood or vegetables and meat) to a company (like fender or restaurant like my father's) suddenly feeling the pinch. Maybe suddenly gas is really expensive and the extraction of said raw materials suddenly cost 25% more. Guess who pays the increase? BOTH PARTIES, the supplier AND the processor of these raw materials. This could be due to a variety of things, not just gas.
