Fender Mod Shop Wishlist

Given that mine is very much not an "off the shelf" bass, I'll gladly take that bath! 🛀😁

But, since you brought up hard numbers, then let's get accurate; with the discounts I was able to apply, and the fact that I live in a sales tax free state¹, mine dropped from $2,100 to $1,889. That's only forty dollars more than a brand-new, not blemished, used, B-stock or whatever MIA Pro II and you cannot, under any reasonable circumstances, get it new any other way.

Big picture...if you have a go at people for getting a Mod Shop purchase, they're probably going to push back. I cannot think of anyone who pulls that trigger believing, "This is a great investment!". Sure, there are some with, to quote my wife, "screaming a$$-loads of disposable cash", but by and large, it's usually more like, "I'm finally getting my 'Dream Bass'!!". That's what you're ridiculing and that's why we take it personally. So, go ahead and call us "delusional", "rubes" or "suckers", because...

¹: This is why I frequently encourage people in the Northeast to do the math and see if a road-trip is worth coming to The First State for a big ticket purchase. :greedy:

I will see your excellent memeage and raise you:

it's just soooo much easier and fun to be nice :thumbsup:and just disagree sometimes, instead of taking those next few steps. I'm super guilty of getting into the weeds here on TB sometimes when someone seemingly crosses a line of sorts...I'm trying to not pushback as much as i have it past, but dang :roflmao:

Word up. There’s enough negative BS in the world these days, especially online. I should probably spend less time overall with my glowing rectangle, and more time in meatspace, but while using said glowing rectangle, I’ve purposefully been focused on truly enjoyable and positive things, like TalkBass and other forums related to my hobbies and passions.

I guess some people like spending $500 more to stroke their ego. Some people just have to argue semantics. Will that bass play any differently than your " Brand New ." Instrument? Call it what you want, that is a never played before instrument with the stickers and plastic on it. I'm not sure what constitutes your level of New. People tend to take personal offense when others provide opinions as to why they value things differently. Do you have regrets on buying your "brand new" mod shop that currently would sell for 50% off your initial investment?

Reason being you don't constantly see them for that price,
A. You're not looking in the right places.
B. They don't last long at the price.

Last week I listed over eight examples in another thread. They all sold. This week theirs three. Granted, this is only one retailers inventory across the entire internet. Hope yall enjoy your mod shop basses.
Value is all relative isn't it? I've said this before, but earlier this month I paid $1750 for a Mod Shop P. Normally it would be almost $2400 with the upgrades I chose, solid rosewood neck, ash body and tort pickguard. They were offering free upgrades that week, and I got 10% off my first order. This is roughly the same average price as a new Pro II (obviously sometimes they're on sale around $1300, and sometimes closer to $1900 new). It was absolutely worth it to me to get exactly the bass I wanted. Not sure it had any effect either way on my ego. A couple of months ago, a very similarly spec'd Mod Shop ash body P sold on Reverb for $100 more used than what I paid for mine new. If one is looking to sell later, the body and neck upgrades that aren't available on any stock models are a selling point. I have no doubt this particular bass will hold or increase it's value over time. I'm sure this isn't the first time the Mod Shop had a deal like this, so if one is patient, they can get a good deal and not feel like they're just paying several hundred dollars for a paint job. If somebody tries to sell a Mod Shop bass in 3T sunburst, Oly White or black with a regular neck that looks indistinguishable from any other Fender then yeah, they're going to take a bath. I'm not buying this bass to sell it, so I don't care either way.

The mod shop allows you to configure from an inventory of pre-made parts.
I quoted this as I agree but would like to see more options from what they do have (or at least what I think they would have in stock). Like an option to get an Pro II body, option to get a jazz neck on a precision body and vice versa, hardware color, pickup cover color options (nothing wild but a choice between black, white, and cream). To me, these things should be somewhat available. I also wonder if they could pull from some other lines that they would have in stock, like if you wanted 70's jazz pickup spacing or a pickup configuration from another signature model (admittedly this is probably not feasible).

I see they have more pickguard options aside from the standard white, black, or tort.
