Fender Modern Player Short Scale Jazz Bass - PJ

Apologies if this has been posted, searched & didn't find anything..

Just seen Andertons here in the UK have put these new models up to pre-order.

This is probably the last thing I need, and I've never consistently played a short scale, but for the price & knowing the MP build quality, these are pretty intriguing.

Anyone got any information about these?

They're cheaper than some Squiers in the UK? Which ones? The Classic Vibe?

The Matt Freeman/James Johnston signature basses, all CV models, the 5 string Deluxe & VM Jazz basses, the VM fretless Jazz and the Precision TB bass all go for the same cost, or more, than these short scale MPs on Andertons.

This fills a perfect niche in Fender/Squier's short scale range of instruments, they're also doing a Strat & a Tele SS guitar with unique features too.

Fender.com seems to be the last website that gets updated with new Fenders.

I called Fender customer service. They said it hasn't been announced at all and he was surprised it's on the andertons website. He said is will be sold in the US but no release date has been established.

In that case, I'll hold off on ordering for a bit. I know there's an option to buy, but if they are surprised it's even been listed, it's going to be a while until they're ready to ship, no doubt.

At least it'll give me time to save money and/or talk myself out of another bass purchase..

Looks interesting. From the looks of the bridge position, it's possible that the entire shortness of the scale is in the neck & a 34" neck could be mated to the body without having to move the bridge! I'll have to take some measurements if I ever get to see one...a 34" P/J Jazz bass would be great for under $600!

It does say that it has a "slighty downsized body" - I'm no expert on these things by any means, but depending on how big the body actually is, could that have an effect on scale length?
