Fender Mustang Bass players

Chris Morrissey a New York-based doubler (also plays upright) whom plays with Jim Campilongo and Mark Giuliana, amongst many others.

That guy is a monster player! I saw him on tour with Trixie Whitley a few years back. Come to think of it that might have been when my interest in SS basses started. If I’m not mistaken he also plays trumpet but I could be wrong about that…

I fricken LOVE their spaghetti western album!

They made a couple more like it in their recent albums. They are a crazy band, sadly though Lukas retire the Mustang for the microtonal albums it seems, now he uses some kind of custom bass, which seems to be still a great axe!

great band! Love their bass parts, didn’t realise he didn’t write them. Still a great player though.

I read that somewhere, I remember also watching interviews with him saying he was busy with his kid which was probably back in 2016 but he said most of the time he learnt what was given, I'm sure early on he may of wrote stuff, either way still a great player!

I believe the gentleman from the Average White Band played one. Very funky parts, and played with a pick no less! But it definitely has that thinner, brighter thing ‘Stangs are known for.

Up here in Canada there is a band called Sloan, bass player is Chris Murphy. Not sure how well known they are in the rest of the world. Ive only seen him play a red competition mustang

Saw the Statler Brothers twice back in the 70's, and their bassist was using a Mustang bass both times.

According to the Radiohead gear nerd King of Gear, Colin Greenwood played a 1972 mustang bass on a lot of the Bends sessions. Recently he released this photo with an upcoming book of photos he’s compiled over the years. Seems he also has an all maple neck mustang in his personal collection (the 1972 may have been rented - photo from the studio sessions also attached). Can’t read the serial number on the headstock, but this particular logo was introduced in 1976. The upper horn has a bit sharper edges which leads me to believe it is from 1978 or later as this particular shape and placement of the strap button is quite common from about 77/78 through to 1982 when the mustang bass first run of production is discontinued.

OK, totally veering off topic, but I noticed the Music Man Sterling in the background, but the headstock looks more like the 5-string shape, than the 4.

I've never known of Colin playing a 5-string.
