Fender Mustang Club

Question: How does one start a new club on TB? Do you need a moderator's approval, or do you just post some parameters and declare one?

Ah, just go for it. If they don't like it the most they can do is shut you down. The '60's Bassists is over a year old and is still up
. Just follow the rulz and you should be fine.
I don't think TB officially sanctions clubs, as such, but they don't discourage them, either. Here's a list of previously attempted Mustang Clubs, only a few of which are still active.
And here's the TB Clubs & Special Interest Groups INDEX Wiki listing most currently active.

I just meant that it seems sometimes a club catches on and takes off, even if the person who started it isn't active in it anymore.
Sometimes a club that seems like a good idea doesn't catch on.
I still think a Squier Mustang club would be a good idea, but it looks like someone tried it already.
Maybe it's time for another try?
I mean, I love the SS Jag, Mustang and P bass threads because I have one. Whether or not a Squier Mustang club would interest me is another question. If it induced me to buy one, that's the difference.

OK, I'm attempting to start the new Squier Mustang Little Pups Club. We'll see how it goes. So far I'm the only member...

And I know t'is not the most earth shaking news in the world, but this club's name has now been changed to the "Squire/Fender Mustang Little Pups Club".
So why you may ask? You may ask yourself why?
Well, this way besides the Squier VM & CV Mustang basses the Club can now include such excellent Fender Mustangs as the vintage ones, the new Justin Meldal-Johnson (JMJ) Road Worn, the American Performer, the Vintera 60s Mustang, and the Bullet Bass. -All of which come equipped with those very small Mustang style pickups. -Plus, who knows how many other kinds of basses out there may be equipped with tiny black pups?? Hmmmmmmm....??

If so, then in essence you are including all officially released Mustang models except PJ Mustangs, yes ?
To play 'devil's advocate' for a moment, the more models of Mustang bass which you include, the more similar that the new club's purpose becomes to that of THIS club.
I realize that it's tough to decide where to draw the line, but [do] you know what I mean ?

Actually the "Little Pups" club was originally started as a special place for Squier Mustang owners and aficionados. It was later expanded so anyone who had a bass with small Mustang-style pups could also join if they wanted to. (And no one has to, right?)~

Also there is indeed some duplication of purpose with this club, but if you look at the Wiki list of clubs here on TB you'll see many such duplications. IMO this mostly means that there are expanded opportunities for learning, sharing, and enjoying more and varied information about our much loved instruments.

There have been a couple of Mustang releases in recent years without the standard pups.
You've got the Fender Pawn Shop 'stang:
And the Squier Mikey Way:

I saw a Mikey Way for the first time, I think it was in another TB thread recently.
Do not recall the Fender Pawn Shop Mustang, but it more or less makes sense what they did there, as that looks like the pup which they had already used in newer Fender Tele basses.
I wonder what the nut width is for those models, and what years each was built ?

I played both, and this is just off memory so someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure both were 1.5" nut width. At the time I was starting to lean more towards Precision-style 1.625" and it put me off the Pawn Shop - ironically now I'd probably prefer 1.5".
They were around a decade or so ago, maybe a little less. 2012 to 2014-ish would sound right for release dates, no idea when they stopped producing them though. There was a Pawn Shop that hung around in a local shop for years, it was a total dog sadly. There were some nice ones around, that one just wasn't one of them.

Maybe you're overthinking and over complicating this. I'm going start another one with my original idea.
I'm sure it will sink through the list just as quickly as yours did.
It's a big bass world out there, and I'm not sure how much interest there is in this small niche.
Sorry guy - no offense, but I'm just not feeling the little pups thing.
BTW - my newer Classic Vibe 60's have smaller pickups than my VM Mustangs.
I found that out when I was going to replace a pick guard on a CV with one from a VM - not even close.
There was a real noticeable gap around the pickup holes.
The Squier Mustang Club will be up in a few minutes.
