Behold A Talkbass Members own bass............ The Phalex corn bass! :hyper:
I jumped on this baby and am a proud player. MMMMMMMM..the power of corn!

Did someone say corn?

I can only imagine what a complete unplayable mess that bass would be if every taste on TB is to be the the basis for the design ... and the endless griping if everyone's opinion is not taken into account. Fender would be wise to stay far, far away from this idea. :)

Fender made a Limited Edition Fenderforum.com Strat and P Bass about 12 years ago. I think they made about 12 basses and a couple dozen guitars. "Surf Green" was the color. Was a headache for most of those who were involved, and when the notion came up to follow it with a Tele, it proved to be too much hassle with everyone weighing in with their "must haves" and the Tele was scrapped.

If any of you used to visit fenderforum.com (Haven't been there in years now), Fender actually produced a guitar and a bass exclusively for the site. If I remember it was a PJ in Seafoam Green and matching headstock.

I'll try to find a pic.

I remember that! I think it was much more doable there because people were at least in agreement on the brand they wanted.

Whatever it is, it has to be "built like a tank" and it has to "nail the [insert adjective here] sound."

Also, it would be good if it were built in China or Indonesia and STILL cost way too much.

somehow missed this one! laughing like i was when I heard David Lee Roth's original runnin' with the devil, audio takes...
that means tears flowing... "built like a tank," indeed!
thanks for laughing out my work weekend,
fnord!

But most important of all it has to be modern and vintage voiced to please everyone. So what we have to do it make a couple thousand, send them all back in time to 1951, lock them in a secret storage bunker, then we'll just go to the bunker in the present and take out our NOS fender basses.

If a time machine is not available, may I suggest an additional control knob for an effect I'm developing; haven't a catchy name yet like Ravishing Sitar, but the control module itself can boost/cut entropy. It would be used to make a new bass old, or an old bass new, in varying degrees, depending on the whims of the owner.
