Fender or Gibson?

im looking to buy a new bass but what do you guys perfer more to? i also play blues and classic rock so help me out

Gibby no doubt has the quality, but if I had to, an American Jazz with active electronics would be my choice. Of course thats between these two.

If those are my options, Fender. Just like the classic P or J bass style more than what Gibson has out there.

However, I would say expand your search.

I personally chose Fender, because for what I play, I find my USA Jazz to be more fitting and versatile. However, I sure would love a Gibson Thunderbird to replace my Epiphone copy, which has been a real work horse for about 5 years now.

To be honest you need to give us more information for us to be able to give you any decent reccommendation. FENDER VS. GIBSON isn't really enough, it'll just devolve in flame wars and personal bias as it already seems to be.

Really, you need to get down a music shop and get your hands on as many quality basses as possible. I mean just because your choice of Bass may not be conventional, doesn't mean that it would sound brilliant in the projects you play. I chose a Jazz because I love the sound, it's versatile and because the one I played in the shop felt amazing in my hands; love at first play. But if it had been a cheaper Squier or a Warwick or a Rickenbacker or any other bass that felt and sounded that good to me I would have gotten it; I didn't just limit myself to one particular brand. Don't make that mistake, or you may pass up your perfect bass just because it has the wrong name on the headstock...

Of the 2 choices, I prefer Fender for basses. Can't go wrong with a P or J. They're no-nonsense and as basic (or bass sic) as you can get.

I like Gibson for guitars. For some reason, their basses never really appealed to me. Although there are 2 exceptions, I like the Grabber G3 (no longer in production) and the Oversized Les Paul Bass.

Same here. I prefer my Gibby for rock and blues. But, that being said, the Fender can do rock and blues almost as well as the Gibby and it can do Jazz, Fusion, Funk, etc.

If I could own only one bass for the rest of my life, it would be a Fender Jazz.

if gibson actually made a good bass, id play it sooooooo much more than a fender. fender has lost their luster to me....

The 1969 Les Paul Bass is hands down the best sounding bass I have. Plus it is the most comfortable to play.

And it doesn't look like 90% of all the other basses you see out there
