Fender p-bass?

Hi all, I'm new to this forum but hope someone can help me out! I bought a cheap bass today second hand from a guitar shop and the more I look into it the more confused I get! The headstock says Fender p-bass and has a few copyright numbers. The neckplate has Squier on it. I've looked in every possible place and still can't locate a serial number. It's a dark non metallic blue. From what I have read on the internet it should have Squier on the headstock. So what is it?! As a guess it looks no older than ten years old, and has no other makers marks or names to be seen. It has one tone control too. Is it possible it had a replacement neckplate? I really would be grateful for any clues!

without a valid serial its hard too tell.
pics would help though too.
what did you pay for it?
the reason i ask even if its not a fender it could be a good deal on a new project.
everything on it work properly?
hows it sound?

i figure ill ask some basics, because we all know its coming on a thread like this.

give us some more info to work from.

thanks.

I paid $120 for it, which would be about right for a Squier. I'll work on the photos! I use a Wesley as my normal one, bad I know! But to compare them the Fender has a far clearer sound and the longest sustain I've ever heard. What makes me curious is that, first, in theory the headstock should at least have Squier somewhere on it, second that the neckplate is where the serial should be but I have no idea why it would have been replaced, and third the colour as I've seen a metallic blue Squier but not a non metallic. The guy who owned the shop said he's had it for sale for over a year which isn't a good sign but as you say, even for a good condition Squier it's a good project. Plus, whatever it is everyone will at least THINK its a Fender ha ha!
