Fender P pickup advice

I own a Fender parts Precision, a MIJ PB-57 body not sure if it's basswood and a MIM '08 neck which is having a 70's style logo put on for a more vintage look.

I am in the process of upgrading it and this is where I could do with your knowledge and advice. I am not sure if the pickups are Alnico or Ceramic, I have bought some CTS 250k pots, & 0.47 orange cap, cloth wire & a new jack socket.

I am having a mate fit them for me but my questions are this,what is the difference between the two types of pickups. And with the pots & cap etc will there be an improvement in the sound,making it sound more of an older Precision bass.

Any advice would be gratfull thank you.

Im with same problem, i have a Precision 70 MIJ, i would like upgrade pickup, i don´t undestand about pots...maybe EMG or Bartolini are good ones?

Hah you won't like this advice but I just buy the cheapest or 2nd cheapest pots and caps I can find from Allparts or something. People say theres alot of vintage tone in old electronic parts but I don't quite buy it, or can't identify it myself. Vintage "style" pickups will get you in the ballpark and then an amp with a warm vintage tube sound will hit the homerun. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over what pots or wires you use, but I'm far from an expert. If you ask me though the impact a "special pot" would have is minimal... the whole point of pots is to have minimal impact to your signal other than their purpose (volume / tone control)

If you want it to sound old get some vintage style p/u's. I liked the SPB-1 (Seymour Duncan Vintage) in one P bass I did.

FWIW they had cloth wire, which I thought was awesome.
