Fender P pickups + SD Quart Pound J pickup?

Hey guys,

I'm refurbishing an old Japanese Aria which has a P + J pickup configuration. I'm looking to get a solid, funk, rockish tone on it and was thinking of mixing original Fender P pickups with a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound J pickup. Would that work, you think?

The duncans are wound much hotter and will naturally sound fatter and louder while the original p may be muted by comparision. I love duncans (both the sjb1 AND SJB 2) but not a huge fan of the qp because i feel you give up tone... maybe the sjb1 in both or the 62 reissue fender . Perhps the qp will go well with the p pup qp.
