Fender "Percussion" Bass?

Hey, TBers! Browsing local CL postings for any great bass steals and I came across this..

Says Fender Percussion Bass, even on the headstock. Tried googling but my google keeps auto correcting the search to Fender Precision.. Because of course. Curious about what this is and if 450$ for a bass in that shape is actually worth it?

And I'm silly.. The pictures were terrible and I thought it said percussion on the head stock, looks like precision after a closer look. Still the body style and color don't look quite right to me.

It's a Precision Lyte. Here's one being played by Carol Kaye.

Check out the motograter or whamola if you want a stringed instrument played with drum sticks. Lol.

That one has a lotta miles on it. They sell for slightly more than that in great condition. So "worth it" is your call. If I tried it and it just felt and sounded amazing I would pay that (after trying to talk the seller down a little based on the "damage"). But if he didn't budge, and the bass spoke to me, I would whip out my wallet.

I had a MIJ Precision Lyte at one time and didn't really care for it. It looked like it was crafted from the spare parts bin at the Fender plant. Kind of like the red haired step child of a Jazz and Precision.

P-lyte was a great bass. I've seen pretty pristine ones for $400.
