Jio, really? I know I changed a lot on my J+ but my notes show it weighs in at 7.6 lbs. I mean, it's different pups and pre but there shouldn't be much difference there. The original tuners vs Hipshot Ultralights maybe 1/2 pound. Franco (the PO) did a refin on it. Maybe that took off some weight. In any case, I like it a lot now.

Hey Chris - like I said, I don't have a record of its weight, probably it was lighter but I know it wasn't under 8lbs. Actually those Schaller Deluxe tuners are fairly heavy and the ultraights were probably a big weigh reducer. Little things can really add up.

I will try to revive this thread a little bit, as well as my posting, in hopes of getting some help on an interesting (at least to me) precision plus deluxe that I have.

I inherited the precision plus deluxe, as well as several other basses from my late father. The first bass he bought me was a jazz plus back in the mid 90's and he always really liked it and would often borrow it. About 10-15 years back he got really into buying and selling basses online and went through a phase of collecting some Fender "plus" models since he liked mine so much. He ended up with a pair of "Boner" basses, a Jazz plus, and a precision plus deluxe. I was familiar with all of these basses and from time to time would borrow one or two to play around with. After taking possession of these basses and going through them I noticed the "plus deluxe" did not have a serial number on the head like the rest of the plus models. This led me to look in other places on the bass and eventually taking off the neck. This is when I discovered both the neck and the pocket have the Fender custom shop stamp on them. However, there is still no serial number anywhere on the Bass. I contacted Fender and they let me know that the names stamped with the custom shop logo were people that worked there, but without the serial they could not give me any more information. He thought that perhaps it could have been on the neck plate and at some point it was swapped out (it just has the F logo on it now).

Would this have been a bass the Custom Shop would do? It seems very unlikely to me that this would be a fake, as both the body and head are of these models are different from your standard p-basses and would be hard to pass off. It seems like there is a lot of knowledge on these types of basses in this thread and if anyone has any insight on this bass it would be greatly appreciated.

I will also try to get some more pictures of the other "plus" basses up as well in the coming days

Thanks for posting @dwsell - no idea of what is going on with the lack of serial # and FCS stamps. May have been an employees personal bass that was pulled off the assembly line by someone who had access to that stamp! Not sure I've seen that model in that blue, but it's possible they were made then - I'm not aware of the specific variety of colours it came in. I have a MII Squier J in that shade, made in 2000 when Fender acquired Cort. (of which many came in that blue)

They are very good basses and merited from the Kubicki-style preamp. Yes, please post pics of the other basses - :bassist:

I was searching for info on my 1990 Jazz plus and found this forum. Nice! Mine is pearl blueburst and has the maple neck and fretboard. I bought it new in 1990 and still have the hangtags. The price was 899.00 but I paid cash so it was less. I first started playing bass around 1970.

I stopped gigging out around 1994. I was running this bass thru a Carvin PB 200 and a 2x15 homemade JBL K-140 cabinet. Still have those too! About a month ago I bought a Fender 100 V3 for the house. I am impressed with that little amp. I also have an Ampeg SVT 350 S/S head. I guess most folk don't care for those amps but it sounds great thru the JBLs.

The small affordable amps produced today are very good. I have an Acoustic B20 (1x12') that is solid-state and it sounds great. It's my home-studio amp but I've used it for small coffeehouse-type gigs and it handles that as well. For that matter, Acoustic and Ampeg were making good ss amps from the beginning. Tube-favoring overshadowed their ss amps but they get the job done.

:cool: cool - this type of finish was unique to the Jazz Plus, P-plus Deluxe, Kubicki Factors and FCS/Kubicki Factors. Not sure who started using it first (Phil Kubicki or Fender) as it was all around the same (short) time when PK was linked w/Fender. In fact, I'll see if I can clarify this point as I know someone who communicates with FCS founder John Page (who designed the '85 Fender Performer) - he would definitely be able to clear this up.

No activity for a while here, so I'll post this nice example of a '93 Precision Plus Deluxe for sale on Reverb (no affiliation) Looks be be in great condition other than one bump - these are great 22 fret, maple neck, deluxe Schaller bridge and tuners, active basses that benefited from Fenders brief association with Phil Kubicki/Ex-Factor basses.

Thought I better put my collection of Plus/Plus Deluxe basses up. The tobacco burst Jazz was my first bass and was purchased new back in the mid 90's and has been one of my main basses. The rest of the basses in this picture where acquired from my late father (see a few posts up), who really liked the lace sensor pickups. The white Jazz is a nice playing bass and I really like the look of a maple fretboard, but the finish has seen better days. The Blue Precision plus is somewhat of a mystery and is detailed a few post up. It has quickly become one of my favorite basses as I really like the tone I can get out of it and it seems to play so easily, as it is set up perfect. The other two are the plus models, not deluxe, but I couldn't leave them out of the family picture. Same goes with the "plus strat" that I picked up a few months ago locally here in Fargo for a screaming deal.

Count me in for this club. Just got a 1990 Jazz Plus V.
Question for other owners:
Do you find that the Treble seems to be Boost Only when active? That's what mine seems to be when comparing to Passive mode. Using headphones and a visual EQ for A/P comparisons. The Bass is definitely Cut/Boost.
