What would it take to get you to buy a new Fender bass?

Being able to get exactly what you want, but at a price point of around a grand or so rather than three grand, would be a BLAST for a lot of Fender fans.

If you could order up a Sherwood Green, tort, P/J with a Jazz neck and lollipop tuners and blocks and binding from our friends to the south and NOT pay used car prices that might just catch fire.

Not everyone on TB is in the good ol’ US of A or cares whether something is made there. For people looking for Fenders, they’re not going to buy a copy anyway. Me, for instance. I’ve looked on Warmoth’s website, Carvin’s website, and a few others and for the cost of currency conversion and shipping, it’s always been about the same or more than a new MIM bought at a store within walking distance of my house. Why would I do that?? Especially when part of what I’m shopping for is the authentic Fender logo?

I voted Something Else. If I (a) needed a bass, and (b) I played a new Fender that really spoke to me, I’d buy it, but if I’m getting yet another bass to supplement the multiple Fenders and Fender analogs I already have, I don’t think I’d pay the “new bass” premium and big depreciation hit. It would have to be the most amazing thing I’d ever played, something that would definitely supplant my other basses. And they’re pretty nice and I like them a lot.

But, I would never say never.

I have one Fender, the American Pro Jazz. Much of my buying habits for Fender was looking for one with a decent neck. Most of the Fenders I have bought were jazz basses, and developed neck issues. So I bought another one anyway.
If this one does that, I will just replace the neck like I should have done on the last one (MIM)
Not currently looking for another Fender, but I suspect I'll buy an American P used someday

Sure, but I was saying that MIM won't be offering a custom line and that it's nice that people interested in a custom bass can buy USA customs regardless...for less than some MIMs, in fact.
Yes, people looking for Fenders might not be interested in other basses, even better basses, but plenty of people still buy Fender-inspired P and J basses...G&L, Lakland, Sadowsky, etc.
As for basses made overseas, I currently have five basses...only two were made in the USA, one, right here in NJ, where I'm living...a nicer Fender copy than any of the five Fenders I've owned.

Where can one buy one of these USA custom Fenders for less than some MIMs?
