Can anyone else give us some info as far as

Fender changed to the round or 'arched' cover by '76, and they also used them on the reissues in the 80's/90's/and 00's. Finally changed back to the low profile squared one with the launch of the 58RI/63RI P's.
So if your bass has one on there, it means someone lost the original one and replaced it with one of those.

Do you happen to know when Fender stopped putting the foam under the precision bass bridge covers?
Probably not much help but I bought a new one in 1970 that had the foam.

When I bought that P bass in 1970 I mentioned above there were a whole bunch of sunburst 6 string Fender VI basses on the wall.

I enjoy these things... call me crazy.
So, a little tough considering the natural finish but I’m going to have to go with stripped alder body. The grain pattern plus the lack of typical swamp or northern ash grain pattern both suggest this. Did Fender try one, or several natural alder bodied basses cause they ran out of ash for a few days, or wanted to try it, or who knows? Possible. The clear finish should be looked at closely to see if it looks like the poly/nitro combo. The neck pocked might have some original color inside.

I waded through the first 30 or so numbers, but have yet to see one in this color. Original finish -- I've had it since the '70s. In the closet for the past 35 years.
I shouldn't take a number because it will probably be for sale in a little while, once I reattach all those parts putting it back to 100% original.
So pretty. I may have to promise myself to take some of the money and find a '64 American Vintage in the same color.
