Nah that’s the 64 CAR refin I got a few years ago. I just got out my old 12 watt Musicmaster bass amp from the garage and took a photo with it. Was my first amp bought new back in the day.
I'm not sure yet. Not in a rush to do anything to the bass yet. It was re-fined prior to 1971. If refin I'll do something transparent - maybe transparent blond. But I think I might just keep as is. Opinions?
If it were mine I'd leave it as-is. Beautiful wood grain and it's been "free" since 1971! Congrats!
That's probably what I'm going to do. I'm even gonna leave the graphite nut for now. It's just set up and plays really nicely so I hate to mess with it.
Olympic White. Original owner sanded it down to bare wood really badly, took way too much wood off of it likely using a belt sander. My luthier actually added a veneer to the headstock to thicken it back up as well as adding some wood to the neck pocket area. Also repaired a crack in the headstock so well you can't even tell it was there anymore.
I’ve always thought the name Dakota Red a bit eerie due to its coincidental naming and the word picture it creates of the shooting location of John Lennon.
I believe Dakota red way pre-dated John Lennon’s demise. My Dakota red Precision is a ‘61, when John was still making a name for himself and his mates.
Yes, I’m well aware it predates John’s death which is why it’s eerie to me. It foreshadows it by 19 years.
