Fender Precision basses with "A" width necks?

Was there an era when "A" width necks were fairly common on specific Fender Precision models?

During the 70's maybe?

Based on anecdotal evidence I think that's right. If one ever gets mentioned or shown around here it is most likely a '70s Precision.

I have an untouched 73' in CAR with an A neck (same as J bass).
It seemed so unusual to have an A neck on a custom color.
Then I saw it was made on Cinco de Maya
I'm guessing after lunch break...

Here's where it gets odd; my 73' J neck is very similar to the above

My 74' J bass has a chunky neck but still 1 1/2" wide at the nut

I have one; and yeah, it's a '78. Back then, several neck options were available, as well as other things. From what I understand, these basses were always sort of semi-custom - if you wanted something different from the one in the store - pretty much from the beginning. I don't know exactly when that ended, but it was sometime after mine was made...

There' s also the MIM P bass special. 90s-00s I believe. But that's a PJ. then theres active deluxe PJ. not as familiar with those. Are you talking straight up passive Precision pickup?

There were some more modern ones. The American Special P-bass had something akin to a jazz neck, and they're a lot cheaper than a 70s Precision. I'm not sure about the California series and the Highway One/1 which predated the Special.

I've seen a decent number of them from the 60s and 70s, I'd say that was the most common timeframe. You just ordered what you want and they made it. Never seen one 1980 or later, aside from the special runs here or there made in the recent years.

I had a '73 natural with a maple A neck, a '75 'burst with an A neck with a rosewood fingerboard and I've seen a few others from that era.
